I bought a used 95 Skeeter, with a 77 Evinrude, And the controller was old and questionable, So of course it went out on me,, I shopped for a new one,, Read reviews, the cheaper ones in the $150-$200 range wasn’t very popular, The reviews on this one sold me,, I’m very pleased with how solid and smooth it is ,, I didn’t purchase the adapter cable, and I wired it up myself,, very simple, works great.. Even though I have a 1996 Johnson 25, with the red plug I needed to get a #176711 cable, which Johnson assures me will plug right in to the motor and plug into the control box. I needed to get a new control after the old plastic parts broke, so this is the safe way to go. I'm looking forward to popping them both right in! Update: 7/31/14 - the unit arrived, and fit right as it should, with a minimum of fuss...the cables fit right in. Obviously this is a better design with all metal cams and no delrin. I'm waiting now for the cable, which should plug right in the controller, and have to be fit into the motor. My motor has no power trim or lift, so this pigtail is left unused. Likewise the warning horn [ ? ] and hopefully, the kill lanyard...this isn't a jet ski, for cripes sakes...this is a 15 ft. Fibreglass runabout.8/6/14 : The cable went right in, and everything works well...got the boat to 22+mph...not bad! Since the old control was always partially broken, I think, the new one has a few differences: The idle lever is just for starting in neutral, and needs to be flat in order to shift. The emergency lanyard has to be in, but hangs out of the way with no problem. the cable came with its own horn, which chirps when the ignition is turned on. I'm glad I got this unit...it shifts well, and is smooth as glass.

Bought this controller to replace the old one on a 1986 Astroglass with a 150hp Evinrude that wasn’t working. I gotta say this controller is well built and easy to install if you have some mechanical skills that is! Instead of buying the adapter harness I chose to wire the harness myself, very easy wasn’t much of a challenge at all! Was also pleased that the controller wasn’t super big and bulky! Overall very pleased with this product!!!

Excellent product and good design.

Nice looking and functions well. Had to pay dearly, for wire harness, to connect to older Evinrude. That said, it will work on a lot of boats, that use a Johnson or Evinrude remote. Also, it doesn't take up a lot of space, which is handy in a small boat.

Replaced my original 1999 unit with this model for my 2006 225 E-tec saltwater edition. It is prewired with thorough instructions for a trouble free installation. The unit shifts smoothly and functions as required.

Easy to install. A little complicated to. Switch handle orientation, but I figured it out. Does require rewiring to connect to older wire harness.

This product claims to be BRP but the sticker on the box said made in Japan. It works fine. Could have saved some cash and ordered it directly. Heads up!!!!
