The Fountain of Truth Take It Off Cleansing Balm comes in a white 4oz tube and cloth for ~$29, as of this writing. I really wanted to love this product. However, it is messy and not practical. I hate it and the oily mess it made.The packaging is not the best design for this type of product. Here is why. The endcap does not come off. Instead, you twist to open/close. The hole in the middle is where the "milky" cleansing balm is supposed to come out.The first time, a copious amount of clear oil. The second time, a mix of oil and cloudy, otherwise colorless jelly emerged. Then, on my third try, I managed to get just a solid mass of smooth petroleum jelly-like cleanser. But this is inconsistent as I can get any combination of the textures mentioned above when I try to use this. Most recently, when I tried to dispense this, thinking the balm would ease out, a massive splash of oil shot out all over my bathroom sink and everything on it. I was not happy about the cleanup.I know this does not have petroleum in it, but it feels and looks like ointment, not a balm, cream, or lotion.I cannot store the bottle on the cap because it leaves a greasy residue wherever it sits.The not-so-milky cleanser does not emulsify well, nor does it rinse off thoroughly when warm water is applied. Instead, I have to rely on my second-step water-based foam wash to really remove it.I am disappointed to report this is just a poorly formulated, poorly bottled product. There are far less messy, easier to use oil cleansers and balms out there. This one is just not worth the trial and error or the cleanup. I tossed mine in the trash the moment it decided to explode oil all over my bathroom counter. I’m not going to keep trying for the sake of hoping I’ll like it or that oil will stop dribbling out of it.

I first bought the Fountain of Truth products from HSN. They no longer have it available so I searched and found out I could purchase it on Amazon. I love the balm, has a nice scent and keeps my skin moisturized and I use with the Fountain of Truth Foaming Cleanser. I highly recommend both products.

There is a lot going on with this cleanser! I almost hate putting it on then rinsing it away a few seconds later. Something about it feels like it should be a slower process to get the most out of all the skin nourishing ingredients. All of the oils and ferments are awesome. Can be used alone, or as part of a 2 step cleansing process. In order to get the exfoliation aspect, use the INCLUDED muslin cloth (tucked into box, wrapped in plastic), or use a disposable facial cloth (example linked below) or a reusable facial cloth. I find myself using this in the evening, and I will slather this on my face and let it sit for a minute or two. Not necessary, but I like adding the time to provide a treatment like effect. Then I add in some water, massage again. Massage with cloth, then finally rinse. Kind of a less expensive version of cult favorite Eve Lom, where this balm (the consistency of, say, jelly) transforms into an oil as you rub it into our face. Like Eve Lom, recommend the whole process with the cheesecloth-like "Muslin" (not included, unlike Lom) that helps to exfoliate and steam. You're supposed to let the hot cloth stem on your face after applying and rubbing in the balm, for 1-5 minutes, and then use it to rub, in circular motion, off the excess cleanser. It's a long, slow process, but your skin will look better for it. Just not the sort of thing most of us can do on an average Wednesday when we're trying to get kids, and ourselves, out of the door.I wouldn't say this feels quite as good, or luxurious, as the Eve Lom, and it's a much smaller container, but for the price difference it's probably 75-80% of the same effect at a fraction of the cost, if you can bring your own washcloth.

Though this skincare product is a facial cleanser, while using it, it actually feels as though it is an oily moisturizer. It feels very silky as it is massaged across the face. Not as oily as a full out oil, but enough so that the first couple uses had me a little worried that I wouldn't be able to rinse this stuff off of my face. No worries though because it rinsed off somewhat easily. I did use a very gentle make-up removing pad to help rinse it away and it worked like a charm.After completion, my face felt very clean, as well as soft and smooth. There were no residuals left to clog up my pores or feel sticky. Just nice, clean skin that also felt as though it had been moisturized.For obvious reasons, I would recommend this cleanser to those with normal to dry skin. Good for both men and women.
