The Secret Of Monkey Island Classic Edition (Limited Run) - Sega CD

This is a solidly built, well-designed reproduction of Monkey Island 1 for the Sega CD, which looks great on a shelf with other games for the platform. I'm glad that they put in the time and effort to design these, but I just wish they had more titles to choose from.As it stands, the port of The Secret of Monkey Island for the Sega CD is far from the best version of the game. It runs slowly on the platform, and often has long loading screens as things are read from the disc. It also has the regular problem of a point and click adventure on a controller, which isn't particularly fun to navigate.A lot of this can be fixed by running the game in ScummVM - the title is completely supported by the engine, and plays much better there. But, you still get the issue of the Sega CD version's color - a lot of tones in the game seem off, and rather washed out-looking compared to the PC version. Plus, extracting the audio files for ScummVM can be a pain for those unfamiliar with the engine, so it's not as simple as just inserting the disc and hitting play.For hardcore fans, this is a neat collectible, but not a version I'd really go back to and play. It's neat to have, though, and great to see these old LucasArts games being rereleased on original formats.
