Dusty was toughing in out in the new society...despite the infections, riots for vaccinations and food. And, then water was gone. So, my new friend Dusty went into his bunker to try and wait all of this mess out.This is a well-written story and I found good ol' Dusty to be most entertaining and calm for a while. Finally, frustration sets in for Dusty... I didn't buy box sets for many years. Now, it is the norm for me. I find it much more convenient to keep a set on my Kindle rather than the separate novels.. 3 in this case.Am in hopes that there is a number 4 in this series. Would be curious to see what Dusty finds 'topside'. Loved the humor and the pacing of this box set.Most highly recommended.

Ok, so this was a $0.99 box set of volumes 1 to 3. I hate to read how people are whining about a 99cent buy. Gee you go to the movies and are entertained for only 2hrs or so and spend $12 or so. If you gave up on a book after a few hours read, then you got your money's worth. Sheesh!So a Kindle box set is one book right after the other. With this box set book 1 was by far the longest. The story just continues from page to page. I just happened to notice as I started a new chapter that it was the beginning of book two - no big fanfare, no fireworks. So what? And the same with book 3. When you get to the last page, you have read what you paid for. If you didn't like the book, complain to Amazon. No author is going to unwrite his book just for you.So if you haven't read the book yet, be warned it does not start off as most typical books you have read. The main character, Dusty, can be a foul mouthed, perverted, SOB. He can also be completely normal - non super hero. He is lonely and sexually frustrated. He is afraid to leave his safe bunker because there are zombie-like diseased people that would love to eat him. On the other hand he is lonely. He is willing to risk a horrible death just to talk to another normal human being. What would you do?Ok, so I liked the book. Is it one of the best I have ever read? Nope. But for the price it was a good book. Buy it!

I very much enjoyed the author's take of a decidedly non-intellectual, yet quite resourceful protagonist. Dusty being a somewhat bluntly introspective, likely formerly conservative, "prepper" was a very interesting choice, that I've never really seen in another book. Some people aren't going to dig such a rough character, but hey.. These people exist in the real world, and if we want to call a spade a spade, they are probably a bit more likely to survive a zombie apocalypse than a lot of intellectuals. That being said.... The journey undertaken seems a bit anticlimactic, and the motivation of Dusty's companion for that journey seems highly unrealistic, given the reveal. Not the author's best, but the journey itself was enjoyable, so that made up for the ending. A little.

While I don't agree with some reviewers characterizations that this series was a 'rip-off' due to the length of the books-the author clearly states that this was originally a novella-the overall plot, characters and story arc are amateurish and, at times, ridiculous.The following is a quote from the forward to book 2, "So here you are, world—Dusty, opinionated, preachy, raw, raunchy, rambling, angry, lonely, and fun." While I agree that there were moments of raw and raunchy, the first 2 books in the series were dull, filled with excruciatingly poor pacing and an incomprehensible plot line.Having said this, I'm a huge fan of the author, and the series "slow burn" is in my top 5 favorites for zompoc fiction. How the author conceived of the nonsense in this series is beyond my understanding. The story arc is exactly what is advertised in the series title, a single character POV written in a 'diary' formula. While there were a few laugh out loud passages in the series, there were many more cringe worthy moments that were sufficiently painful to jar the reader out of the flow of the story. I was terribly disappointed in the first 2 books, where the characters and plot lines are poorly written and absurdly tragic.However, the only redeeming qualities of this series are the author's ability to take an expletive laden passage and make it laugh out loud funny. Of course the following example may be enough to turn away some readers, so, if a series full of these types of descriptions are not for you, this series will not be worth your time. These little gems were the only reason I kept reading the series and did not give it a1 or 2 stars."The loudmouth turd-pellet, his twinkle-eyed news-floozies, and his expert conmen helper-elves on TV wanted me that way."Of course, the context of this passage is part of what makes it so deliciously funny and enjoyable.Having read up to the 4th book in the series, I can say that if you enjoyed other series by this author, you won't be disappointed, but, unfortunately, you'll have to wade though the first 2 relatively short, but painful, books.

I have to say I have read most if not all of Bobby's books. He does a great job in building characters that is totally relatable. Dusty is no different. He is kind of like the every man who has survived the end of the world. Bobby's humor is sharp and irreverent with the Dusty character. Although the books are short they are a fun read. Apocalyptic stories are so often dark and dreadful and this one is but the humor makes it fun. Thanks for another great read Bobby. Looking forward to your next story.

this was a great read, even though it took a minute to get in to cadence of it personally. Having finished Bobby's other story 'slow burn' (if you are into Zombie post apocalyptic stuff-its a must read) I got this book.At first it was a bit strange, it is a diary written by a wise ass with attitude, so it was different. But as you got to know Dusty little better it started making more sense. Times when he went on the rant about something none related were little bit boring that is the only reason for 4 stars. Once the action started the story got me back in and fully vested.Oh, and the price is right.Thanks for a great read, and I'm looking forward to more please.

That book wasn't like anything I was expecting! I love the quirky humor, the no-filter thoughts of the main character, his philosophy of life which, sometimes, was extremely well thought about how our society works.DON'T LISTEN the cheap whining idiots who gave 1 star. There is 3 books into that. Not one. At least, if you give a bad review to an author, give it for the good reasons, not because you can't read properly!The only thing I didn't like that much is that it is kind of short. Too short for such an amazing story like that! I hope there will be more than 4 books in that series. It really deserves more!

This is a humorous, honest and disturbing story about a survivor of a cataclysmic infection of the world.Dusty - the writer of the diary - has an honest and realistic point of view regarding the whys and wherefores of how the world collapsed. It's set in Texas, it's filled with monsters - who, apart from him is left 'normal'? Will loneliness be his downfall?I really enjoyed this entertaining, funny tale and yet it did have deeper, ugly truths. I loved Dusty's 'voice'.Excellent and highly recommended.

Wasn't sure what to expect and even though the explanations of acronyms, sayings, etc. went on a bit, I thoroughly enjoyed this foray into Dusty's apocalyptic world. Funny guy with a boat load of realism. Looking forward to reading the other books in this series!

Well, at first this 72 year old lady was tempted to not read any further. But I am an avid reader and thought ‘what the hell’ let’s see where this is going to go. Surprise! I liked it and came to love Dusty.

As a three-book set at a low price, I thought what do I have to lose? Glad I got!Edit: Some other reviewers say they are only getting one book in this deal - they are just totally wrong! It is three short books merged without cover shots or titles into one book, no gaps. Check the page count for the individual books - 78 pages, 93 pages and 91 pages, and then for the box set - 257 pages.Dusty has been hiding in a survival bunker to avoid the infected and decides to surface after two years. He's well equipped, but has an attitude problem with those who caused the disease that is destroying the world. At times his rants are clearly not for the politically correct crowd. But there are some moments when he clearly hits the truth about the world. About how depending on where you get your news and opinions from leads you to believe in one bunch of politicians and hate another group and their supporters. Except the other group have the same problem with their own biased news sources.How he survives without being an amazing clever guy is pretty convincing, how he uses what he does know it get an edge on the dangerous shroom-heads - the infected mad people - is also a bit convincing.Then he realises there is another survivor, the mysterious M, whom he eventually meets up with. And gets a bit of a surprise as well. ;)They team up and M persuades him to come and meet Auntie Millie, based on a picture of Auntie posing in the nude for playboy! Their trip is a bit of an adventure, and M has clearly calmed down Dusty's ranting a lot. Their road trip ends with another surprise too, leaving Dusty a bit confused, then he has an idea - which becomes book four ( which I have just bought and started reading. And for the doubters who think they are missing book two and three from the box set, book four continues on from the last sentence of the box set.)The individual books are short and I found I was reading them fast to get to the next stage. Once you start ignoring Dusty's non-PC language, it's a fun fast read.As a prequel to the Last Survivors, it covers the very start of the problems that lead to that series 300 years later, but it is Dusty's story really. One man versus the world. He's an ordinary man, not some super-soldier or scientist. Its fun. Enjoyable.Now I am going to start on book 4.I wonder if there will be a short series set, say, 30 - 60 years later, making the situation in The Last Survivors easier to understand.
