PetSafe ScatMat Indoor Training Mat

I don’t want my title to come across as insensitive. HOWEVER, I am so happy this actually works! I have 2 cats, my girl is a sweet little tuxedo who sometimes wants to cuddle but for the most part just makes biscuits on my belly and then lays around me, you know very laid back, very aware of my boundaries, very demure. Then there’s my boy….. and don’t get me wrong, he is the most sweetest cat ever I call him my little snuggle bug. But he is so rambunctious and definitely a free spirit and that is okay with me. They each have free roam of the entire house except the kitchen counters. I even made my back patio into a “catio” he loves spending hours back there and recently his sister joined him and loves to go outside as well she used to be afraid. They have multiple cat trees including one close to the kitchen so they can see everything (open concept design). We free feed so he always has food in his bowl and water, he doesn’t even like human food and yet he would always hop on up. No matter how many times I redirected him during the day he would always get back up. I know someone is going to say “well you have a lot on your counters” nope, I make sure to keep them clear of anything that would make him get up there I just so happened to be lazy tonight and didn’t put the dishes up right away that were in the drying rack. I tried spraying with water whenever I could catch him in the act, nothing worked. He just learned to get up there when I wasn’t around and sometimes when I was around he’d just hop up there anyway. I seen this product when he was much younger he’s about to be one but I didn’t want to waste money due to the mixed reviews but I finally caved bc I was tired of finding white fur and paw prints on my stove top not to mention how unsafe it is for him if the stove was still hot and he got up there. Tonight was the first night I put it up across my stovetop and half the counter that I know he walks across. I got the long couch one for this reason and I have another on the way that I will be placing in the red circle. I drew a circle around the part he uses to jump up, so he jumps up from there then walks over to the stove. Which leads to the video. So I put it closer to the edge bc I observed over time that he prefers to walk along the edge. I almost thought he out smarted me when I got the camera notification and seen he walked around the mat. Now as you can see he initially is hesitant and puts a paw on the mat and is met with just the beeping. When I seen that I was ready to be disappointed until he turned and walked further down and put all 4 paws down. That’s when he felt the static. So it’s safe to say the other reviews were right about there needing to be a good amount of pressure for it to actually work. However since I have a child I appreciate it not going straight into zap mode. It’s only day 1 but I feel like we have a winner. The other mat is on the way and is smaller it will be placed where you see the red circle which is again for some reason the spot he prefers to jump up on to get on the counter. I am hoping these last and that he really gets the memo to stop counter surfing to the point where I can remove them and he no longer gets the urge to do it. But so far so good! If you’re on the fence about it I definitely say do it. It’s very easy to set up, just put the battery in then secure the battery pack to the mat turn it on and adjust the settings. I will be back with an update after about a week to let you guys know more.

This is a great product. It sends the message to your pet to stay off without causing injury. If you have pets that try to run out of the house or climb on surfaces where you don’t want them this is perfect!

My cats thought eating my Christmas tree was cool, so I wanted to keep them away. The shock mode is great, it’s not harmful (I tried it) but they definitely won’t step on it. My only complaint, is I had to purchase 3 to surround my tree and the cats are smart enough to jump OVER, It to still sit under the tree. It’s not 100% fix but curbed 90% of their tree destroying behavior. I wish there were more options with wider mats, longer etc especially for this reason. Other than that great product!

We have been having issues with our own personal farm cats sleeping on our outdoor patio furniture late at night, and living on a farm, this has made the couch become muddy from kitty paws and lots of kitty hair, and not usable for us,when we just want to relax or have guests over. Our farm kitties have their own fluffy cat beds, and even a nice dry set up, so I don't feel guilty wanting my own nice outdoor place to relax. Recently, stray cats, that we don't own, have now discovered the comfy furniture too 🤣... mostly, male cats that are trying to introduce themselves to my spayed female farm cats. I don't want spraying to start on my furniture either. So I tried desperately to find a solution, to keep this from happening. It only happens at night, when we are sleeping. I finally found these patio couch training sleeves, and decided to go for it. I have only had them on the patio couch for about 3 hours. I set up a camera to watch what was going on. I was pleasantly not disappointed in my purchase. This is already a major game changer for us. It worked like a charm. This stray cat was the very first visitor. 🤣 He's very vocal too, so I'm glad to send him farther away from our porch while we sleep 😉 I'm VERY happy with my purchase already! No regrets! I have a cat that is super stubborn and refuses to learn not to try and get into cabinets. I purchased this mat to help break her from it. It corrected her right away. Early on it was hit and miss, but trimming the wispy hair on her paws fixed that. This was so effective, I wanted to get another so I could rotate them around other areas. This brand is more effective and provides information about how many times the cat “interacts” with it. But it is twice the cost of some others. Since I am rotating the mats around I opted for a pair of cheaper ones as extra training. I hate to admit it, but it was entertaining watching her “learn”… repeatedly, until she finally got it. Stubborn.

I bought this one to anticipate having to replace the previous one I had. I had bought one before that an it did not last more than six to eight months. The next one (the one I bought this one to replace) also lasted about the same amount of time. Now this one has lasted a bit longer, but still less than one year. First, at some point, the things starts beeping incessantly and for no reason. You change the battery, reset the settings, and it still beeps. Eventually, it stops, but comes back intermittently. Second, it never unrolls completely. The tips and edges of the corners still stay up on the side where the controller is attached. Third, after about four to six months, the wires start to come detached from the mat, making it hard to clean, and if the wire breaks... that's it, game over for the mat, unless you can manage to make some sort of electrical repair. Fourth, at some point, the controller no longer receives signals from the mat. When stepped on, no beep, no electricity, nothing. Finally, why are all the models the same price, even though some are larger than the others. Also, $55 seems a little high in price for such an item that probably cost less than $10 (I'm being liberal here) to manufacture. You can buy electric muscle stimulator medical devices that are far more advanced for 2/3 of the price of these things and they last 10x longer (I have one from 20 years ago and it still works). Oh, and one more thing. I doesn't stay on. You have to constantly check it to make sure its still on, which is almost daily, and turn it back on because it resets itself (settings) and turns off. So my current one is at that last stage (fourth) I mentioned above. When I detach the controller, it seems to work on its own, but once I attach it to the mat, no go. I have tried to tape down some of the wires that have become detached from the mat but I fear there must be some sort of short circuit or break in the circuit. I have taken care of this produce as prescribed by the manufacturers instructions. It has been less than a year, let's see if they honor their one-year warrantee.

I have two senior cats, one of which developed a bad habit of very randomly leaving a "lago amarillo" surprise on one of our couches in the living room. I tried to break the the little furball's habit by adding pet-safe couch covers and then piling boxes and other obstacles to keep her off these 'couches of her desire'. After a few months, the habit was unchanged so I ordered three of the PetSafe ScatMat Indoor Training Mats (60 in X 12 in) for each couch in my living room. It only took one 'shock' for the little fur monkey to make the association and the law was understood from that point on. Cat brains are pretty smart in that way. So now the cats stay off the couches except when allowed when we are in the room watching TV. The balance of good and evil has been restored, and now the sock monkeys are well behaved... we have had no further incidents. The battery life seems to be fine. The mats have been on pretty much 24/7 for about a month now and are not showing signs of battery weakness. It has several modes of operation and shock levels. I have only needed one mode. The mats are flexible, seem durable, well designed. The mat electronics seem to calibrate sensitivity when first powered up. When I received the I first tried it out on myself to see how quickly it detects the presence on the mat and the shock discomfort. I think lowest setting is probably adequate for most cases. Sorry, but I have no video of the pet reaction, it was pretty uneventful and was not intended as a way to prank the pet (laughing at them undermines the lesson which might result in an act of revenge .. they are smart in that way). With the first encounter with the mat there was just a slightly surprised jump and WTF moment and that was it. I could see a mental note was made "Never return to this couch again, there is bad magic there." Anyway, I recommend this product for training your pet to learn to stay off of a surface that is off limits. best of luck to you,

I have a big window in the living room that has a 4" wide sill and my loveseat sits right in front of it. All of my dogs inevitably stand on the back of the couch and put their front paws on the sill to look out the window. This is a problem because a) they dirty up the sill (the couch is covered) and b) I have a set of sheers that are always closed and they step on them getting them dirty, tearing them or sometimes pulling them down off of the curtain rod. It's very annoying and difficult to train them from doing. This product is really useful for that. Set up is easy with a 9v battery for power and then you just lay it on the area you want to protect. There are suction cups to hold the sheet in place. On the sheet are two exposed wires running its length. When something that can conduct power crosses those wires, it creates a circuit and a mild shock is delivered. You can set the level of shock and I put it to the minimum. I tested it on myself and it was a little more painful than a static discharge from a high pile carpet. The biggest issue for me was the distance between the wires. It's wide enough that a small dog is unlikely to cover both with their paw and even a larger dog like mine (70 lbs) took a few days before she completed the circuit. When she did (the display shows how many times a shock has been delivered), the result was almost instantaneous - she no longer puts her feet on the sill. It's pretty miraculous. Getting her to do anything is usually an exercise in futility but this product definitely did the trick. Too bad you can't just rent them as it doesn't seem like reinforcement is necessary, I guess it will just go into a drawer somewhere. Highly recommended with the caveat about the spacing of the wires.

First time i have slept properly in YEARS My crepuscular cats used to always scratch at the door and become active at night, as a result my wife and I have not had a good nights sleep between us in YEARS... this has solved the issue in one go I highly recommend combining this method with some calming pheremones and catnip as we tried that the second night and it made them less stressed although it does not change the effectiveness of this device... it just works either way

Bought this mat because I have a cat that will not stay off the counter. He will open the cupboard door pull things out of the cupboard that he wants. Even after he is fed. Every time we make a meal or go out and get warm-ups if it smells delicious he will be up on the counter about six times in an hour. We can’t catch him on the counter because he hears us move, and he immediately runs out of the room. He has Ben doing this for 6 years and it is just not stopping, can not even have a clean glass stove top because he has to walk all over it. Put this up the day we got it right away, he got on the counter five times the first night, twice the next morning, and two more times that afternoon. That was Friday to Saturday. It is now Tuesday night and he has not been on the counter since Saturday night. I love the settings, easy set up, I turned the beep tone off so that the cat doesn’t relate the beep to the shock. I’ll eventually spread it across the stove top too so he will learn to stay off of it. But for now it is so nice to have a clean and sanitized counter top all the time. And now that he is not getting up there I cleaned the counter top off more since the picture, we were having stuff at the front of the counter top off keep him off of it Love it highly recommend

It doesn't do what it suppose to do, my cat started to walk over it quickly to avoid the shock and sometimes jumping iver it for fun or annoying me I don't know
