Canon Tele-Converter TC-DC58E for PowerShot G15

Thought I'd get better zoom, and I did, but lost sharpness. Only works at highest zoom. Unusable at lesser to no zoom on this camera. When using at no zoom, the image pulls so far back it's like a fisheye lens, round but not a fisheye. When you don't get this teleconverter, remember to not get the adapter for this as well. My G15 is a great camera, and I think the world of it. I still do, but not with ANY lenses, adapters, or filters. I got it for the size, sharpness, and controls. Was extremely disappointed with the size it becomes with that add ons. Skip the accessories. If you need them, consider a mirrorless on small DSLR. Not much difference in size when you add on. In addition to the filter adapter, I also purchased this tele-converter. I have the same issues with both items. 1) the connection to the camera is very poor. It doesn't lock into place and can easy turn and fall off the camera. 2) When using the tele-converter whether it in full zoom or not, the tele-converter blocks a large amount of the image you see through the viewfinder. It doesn't affect the final image but it's extremely annoying not being able to see what you trying to photograph.

Works well with the G15. It does have vignetting when zoomed out for wide, BUT then I bought it for what it is a tele-photo so no surprise there=) Quality is great, no chromatic aberrations, solid build and quality all around.

The capability to rise the focal lenght for Cannon Cameras is a great featureHowever new users should also use (or Buy) a small tipod to have a better image stabilization.

The standard G15 has a 5:1 zoom range - 6.1mm to 30.5mm, or a 35mm film equivalent of 28mm-140mm. In this review below I give all focal lengths as 35mm film equivalent.A zoom ratio of 5:1 is about the lowest I can live with. For basketball pictures, for instance, that's about the range you need to zoom between someone on the near side of the court and on the far side. But for my use the G15 is weighted a bit too much towards the wide angle end and teleconverting 1.4x should give 39mm - 196mm, which would be just perfect. I tried a cheaper 'generic' lens, but vignetting was so bad it was unusable. The Canon lens is designed specifically for the G15 so I assumed it would would work across the full zoom range. It doesn't. Vignetting is really bad at wide angles so you are pretty much limited to 84mm - 196mm (a zoom ratio of only 2.3, not much use to me).The lens is optically good, so you do get good image quality all the way out to the edges. If you have a specific use which only needs this small zoom range then it would be fine, but for me the vignetting at wide angles is unacceptable. It arrived yesterday and I've already put it back in the box. I can't foresee any situation in which I'd ever use it.
