As You Like It

This recent production of As You Like It from the Royal Shakespeare Company was outstanding. Without sacrificing the comedy, this performance treated Shakespeare seriously, as if there were real stakes in the game. The play was very well-acted -- especially Rosalind and Audrey -- and visually effective. Hymen, the God of Marriage, as an enormous Deus Ex Machina, was both impressive and true to Elizabethan origins.

This is a very hammy production with a lot of shouting. The Globe Theatre version is far superior and even the old Laurence Olivier version is worth a watch. Don't waste your money on this.
