Still too many attempts to be cute!
OK, as you can tell from my nickname, I'm a huge BP fan. However, I continue to hate the fact that the authors include bad jokes instead of good analytical writing. If we'd wanted comedy, that'd be one thing, but we're starved for baseball analysis! I guess it gets boring doing lots of data crunching and forecast writing, but please write the jokes in addition to the analysis, not as a substitute!

A Nerdy Breath of Spring
When this arrives, I feel better about the future. The new edition is just the right size, fonts are still readable enough as long as I don't lose my reading glasses. An excellent cast of writers is what makes it a joy to read, despite the nerd math which is secondary fun, but still...fun.Dig it.

Fascinating as always, but marred by unfair player bio
I LOVE the BP annual, look forward to it every spring, peruse it regularly during the season, along with past years' annuals. This year's is the usual high quality, but my experience was degraded by a terribly unfair player bio that had nothing to do with their abilities or performance, but rather, seriously disparaged the player's reputation. I would suggest that BP writers, who are so savvy analytically, apply those same skills in discerning the truth about off-field incidents as they do about player performance. Domestic abuse is a reprehensible crime--I'd be careful about labeling someone guilty of such when all of the available evidence falls far short of that label.

Come for the baseball, stay for the esoteric references and comparisons
And if you don't, buy it.For baseball lovers, literary aficionados, or anyone looking to read some of the best short descriptions of humans available. Want to learn some esoteric history while learning that your favourite player is also projected to start declining? This book is for you. It's so good that i regularly share passages with my partner, a history who enjoys watching baseball. She guffaws in appreciation. It's so good I started paying for their site so I can read more of their content. That's been amazing.Just buy it. You'll something, be it about baseball, writing, or something else.

GREAT SOURCE FOR PLAYER EVALUATIONS
The player evaluations address many more players than just the ones who make the big league roster. Top prospects, as well as late-career hangers-on looking for one last hurrah, are all evaluated. While technically very thorough, the evaluations frequently include some humorous, yet totally relevant, comments that make the evaluations an easier read than they might otherwise have been. The player evaluations presented in this book are unmatched anywhere else in the industry. The team essays are all interesting with the possible exception of the Chicago Cubs essay which seemed to be more dedicated to describing the author's life than the Cubs season.

A bit down this year but...
COVID did a number on baseball in 2020, and as a result of the shortened season, BP suffered. Writing is still great, but as a result of the shortened/truncated/whatever season, BP seems a lot like 2020 baseball...not entirely satisfying. But there's always next year...

Great on the Kindle Now
Baseball Prospectus is a yearly spring ritual for me, and I was glad to see they fixed the formatting issues and lack of TOC that plagued the previous year's Kindle edition. The book reads great on my Fire tablet now, I'm enjoying the essays and also the coverage of the Asian leagues.

No PECOTA leaderboards
The 2021 edition omits the PECOTA leaderboards at the end of book. Very disappointed about this.

A poor response to an important issue.
I downloaded last night, opened to my favourite team, the Toronto Blue Jays and had to read a long article on black lives matter. Without a doubt racism is one of the most important issues of our time and many other times. If you want to have that discussion, put it up front on the main page, not in a essay about a Canadian team buried in the back of the book. Talk about Hank Aaron, and what he faced while being one of the best players ever. Do stats on the impact of racism on baseball past and present. Explain the lack of home field advantage when someone says they will murder you from the outfield if you hit a home run. A weak disappointing response to an important issue.

Covid Year Made It Difficult
An annual purchase which I usually rate as a 5! But the Covid year made the minor league coverage of prospects more difficult through no fault of the publishers. A break on price last year may have been in order.
