Very informative and unique source on barrel racing...
I found this book by world champion barrel racer, Charmayne James, very thorough and packed with interesting information. She offers advice from her own extensive experience. This book offers a look at what it takes to become an 11-time world champion from the woman herself.I have been barrel racing for 12 years and this book includes many ideas and practices that I have never heard of before. She covered many different aspects of the sport like choosing a prospect and bloodlines, training and conditioning for the horse and rider, dealing with anxiety, sportmanship and professionalism, nutrition for the horse and rider, troubleshooting, and many more things, including an overview of her career and the great horses she has ridden. This book has a glossy and attractive appearance inside that really hooked me when I was reading it. It's not all dry text or diagrams. I read it a little bit at a time, picking out the parts that looked interesting until I had read the whole book through twice. I highly recommend this very approachable and fun book to both the experienced barrel racer and the newcomer.

Charmayne James on Barrel Racing
I've been barrel racing along time (longer than Charmayne as I'm about 10 years older) I have watched her career with great interest along with all other barrel racers around the globe. There has been none better in our history. About three years ago when my old horse retired I thought I would too - however that decision has since been reversed & I purchased a new horse - good time to purchase Charmaynes book and DVD's. The general horsemanship is the same message I always tried to practice -however the pattern its self is way different and just makes so much sense. I'm loving this book, love reading up, practicing the pattern on my new horse and sharing with my friends. I feel like the old dog that can learn new tricks and its exciting. Totally love this book and recommend it to all barrel racers, young - old, green - experienced. thanks Charmayne and Scamper.

Grandparent
Our granddaughter is age 9 and started barrel racing this year. We were new to the sport and didn't know anything about barrel racing. I absolutely love the book. It covers everything from the technique of riding, to caring for your horse, developing confidence, how to pick a horse, saddle, bit, etc. Book was nicely illustrated.I liked the book so well, I ordered a copy for our granddaughter and her friend who also barrel races.

Barrel racing girl
My niece has recently started to compete in barrel racing. Although this book is written for the adult, she is 10, she is gleaning tips to help her improve. The book has a wide array of helpful hints from one of the world's barrel racing champions, the fact that she is a woman is encouraging to my niece. I think that the experienced rider would also find the tips in this very useful.

Great and well written book
Great and well written book. Easy to read if you are a cover to cover reader or a topic jumper. I like the approaches and explanations that she provides. So far it has helped me focus more on the riding instead of the pattern!
