Three Minds Press Pen and Ink Drawing Workbook

Detailed and Thorough
I like this artist very much; Alphonso Dunn. He has videos on YouTube and they are well worth the watching. I got this book because of his videos. This book is an entré into the world of sketching, drawing, and pen & ink rendering. This book gives you a catalogue of textures to learn, reference, and work with. This book also demonstrates how a drawing goes from a light sketch to a finished picture. I highly recommend anything by this artist/teacher. He's very detailed and encompassing in all that he does. If you take each step of each exercise and work on it fully and thoroughly before moving on to the next step, when you finish, you will have begun to acquire some very reliable mastery skills. (Watch him on YT, too.) 😊

Highly recommend getting both books together.
For me, the books helped to organize my training....to practice with purpose and intent so I can get better over time. And they help.Like many others, I became a fan, and follower, of Mr Dunn and his work through youtube. He's become somewhat of a virtual mentor now I guess lol. Anyway, I had always wanted to learn to draw but never made the leap. Then one day I decided to do it. To have fun with it and just do it.Now it's great there is so much online for someone like me to try this from home. But there is just so much content out there, you hardly know where to start or how to organize it all. You are inundated with content.IMO, if you study and practice from home like I do, then these two books are where to start and grow. I no longer simply try to draw things, but go about my practice with a system now. I warm up and follow a repeated pattern just like learning a musical instrument. That's what the books did for me. They guide me in what to practice & how...then to put that into my drawings as best I can. And I continue to reference the books when trying to learn to draw whatever it is I am focused on. (Nothing great...but that's the point...to learn and to put it into practice so it becomes something...at least for me it does. )One last thin. The entire online drawing and painting community is one of the more positives things on the net. Yes there are issues with some. But I really do enjoy most, if not all, the artists. (Kenzo (Love Life Drawing) and Ian Roberts are two of the many more I follow very closely.) It's really amazing to find so much positivity. That's been my experience anyway. And I would argue these books by Dunn add to all of it. They give me a path to creating a foundation that I was lacking. His books are worth it. And his YouTube videos are inspiring, enjoyable and challenging. Get both books and work them. Put them into practice...Don't just read them. And use what he teaches you to see more in the works of others as well. The more I keep referencing them, the more I take away from them. That's my 2 cents anyway. And an easy 5 stars for me.

Beschadigd product

Alphonso’s ‘simple guide’ is complemented by this workbook
I was interested in learning pen and ink drawings so I bought Alphonso’s ‘A simple guide’. It made me scratch my head a lot. This workbook bought all the ‘simple guide’ into understanding. I recommend if you’re buying the ‘ simple guide’ also purchase the workbook. It has shown me what is meant when it says to gradually develop shading from two or three values with a wider range what options are available. If you want to just build up your strokes through drills and exercises. This book guides you through over 100 drills and exercises
