Fun contests
I wasn't familiar with the Math League contests when I bought this book, but was looking for problems a little bit below the MathCounts or MOEMS level. This fits the bill perfectly. It includes:7 forty-problem contests for grades 5-6 (from the older years when the grades were not separated)1 thirty-problem contest for grade 41 thirty-problem contest for grade 51 forty-problem contest for grade 6The last three are bonus contests from 1991. Questions are all multiple choice and quite short, with usually about a third to half being trivial computation ("How many prime numbers are there from 0 to 10?"), a third being slightly more complicated word problems ("If a triangle has two sides of 5 and 7, what can the third side not measure?"), and the rest being fairly challenging rate, number theory, fraction comparison, or unit conversion problems. The only complaint I have about this book is that the solutions given in the back are extremely short, often simply stating the answer without explaining the reasoning behind it. This is not really a problem since the questions are so simple, but for some it would be nice to have more detail (especially when teaching a child).Overall, the contests are a great prelude to middle school math competitions.

Good Practice yet Challenging.
After working through the problems in all of the books for Math Contests, Grades 7 & 8, I went straight for the set of books for Grades 4, 5, and 6. It's as good as the other ones, and I've enjoyed the problems.I would have to say many of them are quite challenging, but it's a lot better when the authors decided to break it down to 3 different grade levels. However, the 6th grade contest is still too hard. They need to tone it down more, and I am sure they will have done so when I take a look at the next volumes. All in all, Math Contests, Grades 4, 5, & 6, Vol. 1 is worth the time spent.Check out my YouTube videos of similar problems to the book by googling "Mr. Math Expert Math Olympiad Contest Problems for Elementary and Middle Schools," "Mr. Math Expert Selected Math Puzzles," and "Mr. Math Expert Math League" for more practice.

Challenging yet Fun.
After working through the problems in Math Contests, Grades 4, 5, & 6, Vol. 2, I went straight for Volume 3. It's as good as the other one, and I've enjoyed the problems. This book is a lot more reasonable since the difficulty of the contests is broken down into 3 grade levels, making each one appropriately done. All in all, Math Contests, Grades 4, 5, & 6, Vol. 3 is worth the time spent.Check out my YouTube videos of similar problems to the book by googling "Mr. Math Expert Math Olympiad Contest Problems for Elementary and Middle Schools," "Mr. Math Expert Selected Math Puzzles," and "Mr. Math Expert Math League" for more practice.

Practice, Practice, Practice
There are quite a few practice books in this series. The questions are quite deceptive in a good way. First few are quite easy so children build some confidence and then the questions become harder and harder. But the questions are not really difficult meaning they are not on par with Math Kangaroo or similar competitions. However these books are a great starting point to train our children for math contests. Overall for the price that Amazon offers, they are a great buy.

The questions in these books are pretty much the same
I bought both volume 5 and volume 6. The questions in these books are pretty much the same. As an advice for future buyers, one latest volume should be enough.

Worth the Price
Great for doing a variety of challenge problems that include easy, medium and hard problems and cover 3 grade levels. Many problems + good variety = great for learning & challenging a little mind. You get your money's worth in my opinion.
