It just does the job, perfectly.
Used this to plug a Dell Latitude laptop into a Utah Scientific SC4 router at a broadcast station. Didn't have any real issues. Unit easily powers off of your USB port with no issues. Just make sure you download the software from the BlackMagic website to configure it. It ships with the highest of settings that aren't quite "ATSC 1 broadcast facility compatible" at 1080p and 60 fps. Otherwise, it runs like a top, is smaller than a deck of cards, mounts easily with 2-sided tape or detachable mounting loops, and is really unobtrusive. Yes, it is capable of taking HDMI in and outputting to both the HDMI out and SDI out. Yes, it is capable of outputting the same way with SDI in. Should you plug both an SDI AND an HDMI in at the same time, it will cross-convert to the opposite standard both ways.

Serve the purpose well
I am using it in both direction in different occasions. The device serve the purpose very well. You may need to supply power to it when connecting with HDMI which is not come with the product. But it just a usb-c, easy to find it.

Excellent for live production
I now have five of these bi-directional converters in use for live production with a Blackmagic Constellation 2 M/E and I absolutely love their simplicity and performance!I primarily use these for converting HDMI out from laptops to 3G SDI that get plugged in to my switcher. I often get handed PowerPoint slides with embedded videos, so I need to be able to pass audio and video. My most recent live production had two laptops as sources with audio and they worked flawlessly. I actually ditched my Decimators for these because they are basically plug-and-play simple.I also use one converter for one of my Multiview monitors that requires me to convert 3G SDI to HDMI.In both cases, whatever needs to be convert can also be looped out to another device and that works so well for my setups. Also, You can use standard 5v USB-C power for these, which I prefer. The BMD plugs can be very bulky and cumbersome, so not good for my portable production pack that has a 1RU drawer.Such a great, inexpensive and compact solution!

Great adapters
If you need SDI->HDMI or the other way around then these are the adapters for you. As long as 1080p is good enough then these are the best things to have in your bag.

THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE THE REQUIRED POWER ADAPTER!
For a few dollars more you can get the same product with the power supply. I don't even know if BMD is selling these without the adapter or the seller is piecing the parts out to make more money. The product is great the seller is not!

Works perfectly on 720p60 and 1080p30
I needed something to take clips played on my computers (MacBook Pro and Dell Inspiron) and put it into SDI inputs on a Blackmagic production switcher. This looked like the perfect solution. And it was, although it took me some time to realize that when I plugged it into the HDMI outputs on either computer, the computers were defaulting to 1080p60, which this device will not do, and which I didn't want in the first place. If you see video that's all gray, pink, and green, you may be having the same problem. On both computers, changing the mode for the 2nd display to 1080, 60 Hertz refresh rate, produced perfect output.
