Along with rum and cigars, the music of Cuba has proved a hugely successful export for many a year. The early decades of the last century saw bands from the island playing for the socialites of New York and Paris, a period when terms like rumba, mambo and cha-cha-cha entered the international vocabulary. Featured here are 50 tracks by the cream of the Cuban artists, incuding many artists that would later form Buena Vista Social Club. Buena Vista translates as 'Beautiful View' - this is beautiful listening in any language.

Not a very good quality cd...
The music sounds flat, even on a great stereo system. Quality of this cd production is lacking.

OK for the price but don't buy Definitive Cuban as it's the same CDs in both
Double CD. Music is OK. A good choice of Cuban music... However....... BEWARE: Do not buy this and the one called DEFINITIVE CUBAN. They sow up on Amazon as a paired choice however, both of the CDs in this collection are in the other one too so all you get extra in 1 CD and 4 duplicates. Worst part is that both collections are by the same company so really feels like a con.Apart from that, an enjoyable experience.

Best value CD for 50s and 60s Cuban music
At £3.50 for 50 classic tracks it's impossible to find a better value and broader introduction to the golden days of Cuban music. The choice of artists is excellent and many styles are represented here. Play some of the the MP3 samples on Amazon Essential Cuban Anthology (Amazon Edition) if you are not sure and I think you'll buy it straight away.Please don't forget this is music from an earlier era and not some tacky, synthesiser-filled, hi-tech salsa recorded recently. Don't expect modern recording standards to apply. This music has real class and you could listen to it or play it as background music according to your mood.Be careful - you may get hooked. Great classic Cuban music... Love the vintage music on here. Far better than all the club stuff that masquerades as Cuban salsa/mambo, etc...

Completely Bananas
Deliciously old fashioned listening, people think I’m a bit mad as I eureba down the high street in my Cuban heels and pink headphones cha cha cha. Two discs of revolutionary music. I can’t wait to get the Carmen Miranda outfit.
