Scavenger Art: Creative challenges for curious kids

not enough space on drawing pages!
Nice ideas, just not enough space on the drawing pages to inspire little artists. Too cramped - a larger page size would help.

Creative drawing ideas - easy and fun for kids
So much fun for both indoors and outdoors. Completely solves the "I don't know what to draw" question and takes the classic scavenger hunt to a new level.

Very inspiring and a fantastic concept.
A really good concept! My daughters are aged 11 and 14 and both love drawing but often ask ‘What should I draw?’ Looking for inspiration from me or for an idea to challenge themselves for a drawing competition. - lucky me, I get to judge, have to tread carefully with that one, I think the feedback and results are harder than the drawing….This book combines a scavenger hunt around the house with inspiration for drawing everyday items you’d never even thought of, so doubly keeps them occupied and less need for them to ask me to tax my brain! It gave us all some really good inspiration. We received our copy of the book just before October half term so it was fantastic timing for us and they were keen to get started which was an excellent result as it kept them off their tech, without my nagging or coercing them.As they progressed through the topics in the book they were even coming up with some of their own suggestions, which is brilliant as it gives the book even more longevity and stretched their imaginations and the way they view their surroundings. Fantastic, thank you.

A simple yet inspired concept that you don’t even need to be good at drawing to enjoy!
My daughters (ages 9 and 13) and I are huge fans of Lexi's books and this is another great collaboration with illustrator, Molly - so simple yet so inspired! Both of my daughters love drawing so this book immediately appealed to them and they couldn’t wait to get started and the great thing is that there are no long or complex instructions to read through before you can get to work drawing! The book is based around the concept of a scavenger hunt and, thankfully for me and my limited artistic abilities, it sets the scene by inviting us to draw things how we would like them to be and emphasising that it is not an art competition! The topics are broken down into distinct areas - in the house, nature, food, animals etc and this gives the book a simple but effective structure that helps to maintain focus. It was really interesting to see which sections my daughters gravitated towards. I have a 9 year old who would eat pasta for every meal if she was given the chance and so the chapter on eating, and particularly pasta, really grabbed her. She drew nine pasta shapes from her memories of our pre-Covid holiday to Italy! My eldest daughter is a very talented artist and loves to draw horses in particular, and the animals chapter encouraged her to branch out into drawing some new creatures - including the stick insects which she has as pets! The book provided a nice balance between things that my daughters were already very comfortable drawing and new ideas/additions to enhance their pictures. Having recently moved house the Outside chapter (chapter 3) proved rather inspiring and they enjoyed looking at and recreating a version of the stained glass window we are lucky enough to have as well as the feature door knocker. We dipped into this book as a family and it provided a different take on a scavenger hunt for us and a lot of fun as a family as we are revealed our drawings!

Gorgeous Book
I thought this GORGEOUS book would be brill for my nearly 9 year old son who struggles with fine motor skills but loves to take quizzes and fill in things like word searches and picture "find the difference" games etc. Unfortunately this was not a book for him. HOWEVER my 6 year old niece picked it up and had a blast for hours. Actually for hours. She was occupied beautifully and practiced her drawings. Its clearly a winner for a kid happy to draw and contemplate. Brilliant "mindfullness activity".

Great Mindful Art Activity Book For Kids
Thank you to the author, publisher and Rachel's Random Resources for the copy of this book in return for my honest opinion. The book is split into different parts and themes, which can be completed in order or dipped into a bit at a time, depending on where the artist is and what they see to draw.My son told me that his drawings were a little messy because he was balancing the book on his arm as he filled in the grids, which filled me with joy as it was great to see him just go for it rather than being held back by worry about what it looked like. The text on each page is short and friendly but not too simplistic, perfect for the target age group of 6-12 years old in my opinion. The bright illustrations also help to spark the imagination and enhance the warm, welcoming feeling as you get to know this book.In my son's words: I would give this book 4 / 5 stars because it helped me to just relax and draw. I liked that it gives you ideas of what to draw but doesn’t say what you can’t draw. It says that it doesn’t have to be perfect and I like the fact that you have to go somewhere in your house or outside to look for things to draw. I’d recommend it to my friends who like to draw.

Such a wonderful method for introducing children to observing and drawing
This book is recommended for 6-12 years but as my granddaughter of 5 has experienced Lexi Rees' books before and is a great little arts and crafts fan, I was confident that she would love it. And I am very pleased to report that I was right! Granny knows best!!We loved that she was encouraged to look closely at everyday objects inside and outside and to draw in a grid what she saw. I think it really got her to think about drawing what she could see rather than from her imagination which most littlies do. Lots of pages with lots of different ideas and plenty to keep children happy and occupied inside and out, in good weather and bad. A great book to take on holidays or just enjoy at home in the school breaks and weekends.I'm going to buy her this again in a few years time because I can't wait to see how she develops as an artist. I think both will be a wonderful record for me and hopefully for her too.Highly recommended !!
