The Cold War: A New History

Propaganda.

Ronald Reagan, the unsong Heroe of the 20th Century
"The Cold War: A New History" is a fast-paced overview of that very important, but short period in human history. Those who are looking for a deep analysis will be dissapointed, it's not the goal of the book. However, if, like me, you want to take a look back at what was going on, in a manner that will make you ponder about how incredibly lucky you are at having survive those highly dangerous years, this a book for you. If you are 30 years old or younger, this book should be required reading. What stands out after just finishing "The Cold War" was the tremendous influence Ronald Reagan had in the fall of the Eastern Communist world. Reagan was the right US President at right time. History will acknowledge his stewardship, his vision that "detente" was in fact a very bad thing. Reagan once said about "detente":"It's like the relationship between a farmer and a chicken, one of them is bound to get his head chopped off."He was the first to understand that MAD (Mutual Assured Destruction), althought it preserved "peace" for over 40 years, could be challenge without devastating results. He understood that the unhealthy stalemate the world was living in was unnatural and therefore not a permanent state of affairs. Relations between East and West could and would change. He used words instead of tanks, he took the necessary steps in order to shake up, unsettle and eventually, with the aid of Gorbatchev, wreck and eradicate the Eastern block as we knew it. Ronald Reagan is the unsong Heroe of the 20th Century, and John Lewis Gaddis work clearly prooves it with unquestionnable evidence.
