What I like about Schin Loong's approach to calligraphic drawing is that it's different from flourishing lessons from the past. It's more fun! Instructions from the 1900s about flourished drawings are often rote and mechanical. They give you "recipes" on what lines you need to make a bird. Boring! And what if I don't wanna draw those birds, now what? haha. This book encourages you to be CREATIVE and incorporate YOUR own style. I love seeing the drawings in the exercises form step by step and reading about her design choices along the way: what parts to accentuate, what lines to use to express different textures, how to elegantly fill up space in a design and how to use calligraphic lines to build up values that add depth to a drawing. It's cute, lighthearted and full of Ideas and drawings to inspire you to express yourself creatively!
