Super Happy Magic Forest: The Humongous Fungus

We love all of Matty Long books!! This is a chapter book! I was expecting something similar to his other books, but this was a happy surprise!

I basically want to get down on my knees and beg Matty Long to write more books and please write them faster - he is a HUGE deal in our house. His books - and the Ricky Ricotta - are literally the ONLY books my 7 year old son will agree to read. Once we'd recovered from the shock of the black and white illustrations (which IS a disappointment, but we got over it!) the story kept my son laughing like crazy all the way through. I'm not sure how Matty Long does it, but he's really tapped into something that works brilliantly for 7 year old boys who don't like to read. This story is so funny and ridiculous, but also has characters that you end up really caring about. Thank you Matty Long and PLEASE hurry up with the next one!

My 7 year old son tends to prefer non fiction books, but this was the first fiction book (that was a decent size) that he read cover to cover, on his own and in an hour or so. I was so pleased and that must be testament to the writing and how the author has captured the imaginations of this age group. It is full of pictures and fantasy lands and humour. So I would recommend

Another great addition to the Super Happy Magic series. My kids (and I), loved the first books and now they are a few years older they’ve been able to continue the journey by reading it to me before their bedtime with the new story book format.I expect we will reach double figures of the times it has been read during this lockdown period!Highly recommend and looking forward already to the next one.
