Lovely book
A really lovely nursery rhyme book. I bought it to read the rhymes with my baby when he was just a few weeks old, and it's a book that we'll continue reading for years to come, and hopefully when he's older he can join in with the rhymes! He's 4 months old at the moment and seems to enjoy listening and looking at the pictures.Good points:- Nice padded, squashy cover- Large selection (over 100) of rhymes which include famous sayings and lullabies as well as nursery rhymes, from long ones such as 'The Owl and the Pussycat' to short rhymes just a couple of lines long. I've added photographs of the Index pages of the book so you can see the full selection.- a nice size - quite small, so easily portable - I've added a photograph of the book next to a sheet of A4 paper for an idea of the size.- Lovely illustrations throughout the book to accompany the majority of the rhymes. Before I purchased this book, I read a review which was disappointed with the illustrations, but I was pleased with them. Not every rhyme/page is illustrated with pictures - some pages are simply decorated with swirly patterns (as in the photograph I've added of the page featuring 'Solomon Grundy' and 'Thirty Days...') but the vast majority of rhymes have accompanying illustrations - some are illustrated/more colourfully decorated than others (such as the photo I've added of the double page featuring 'The Owl and the Pussycat').

Fine for an everyday book but not a gift
This book is fine and nothing more. I bought it as a gift for a newborn as I always like to give a nursery rhyme book as a part of my gift. I bought it on the strength of all the 5 star reviews and the positive comments about the illustrations but I was also slightly hesitant because it was so cheap compared to other book prices. Turns out I was right and you get what you pay for. The book is fine and the illustrations are only ok. There is a good enough selection of rhymes. BUT there is absolutely no wow factor at all. I previously bought the Puffin Baby and Toddler Treasury as a gift and I regret not buying that again. It may be more than twice the price but it truly has the wow factor I was looking for and feels like something to be treasured where this book doesn't. I would definitely recommend this book if you are just looking for an everyday, cheap book for your kids to mess about with but if you are looking for something more special to give as a gift as I was, I would recommend spending a bit more and get the Puffin Baby and Toddler Treasury instead.

Keeping Tradition
Remembered from several decades ago, I bought this book for my new grandson as the traditional nursery rhyme these days seems lost in masses of celebrity or TV series based story books.I was pleased to see nearly all the old favorites in there. It was also interesting to note that several consist of first verses only. I thought it was my memory that I could never remember what came next but it seems, no, that is all there was to learn when reading for the first time. It's worth looking some up just for interest.A great reference for over a hundred mainly traditional rhymes with good rhythm and cadence which is great for getting young babes interested. Try Ride a Cock Horse while bouncing your youngster in time and see.

Really Lovely traditional nursery rhyme book.
I am in my 60,s and I bought this to sing to my grandson.,who is 18 months .It is so lovely as it has very traditional nursery rhymes ,that my mother( now passed away ) used to sing to me as a child. My grandson regularly lifts it out of the toy box and asks “ nana to sing” .It gives me so much pleasure and my son smiles when he hears me ,as he remembers me singing them to him too..So these nursery rhymes have now been sung to 4 generations.!In this crazy modern world It is so comforting and nice to keep these old traditions going ( even though some nursery rhymes are not thought to be politically correct these days !!)

It is what it says it is
If you’re looking for a nursery rhymes book, this is excellent. Illustrations also pretty. However I have now decided that I hate nursery rhymes. Most of them don’t make sense and the rest either involve tragic stories or rhymes that are made up of repeated lines, expressions. I understand that what matters to little ones is how they sound but I still don’t think we should treat them as idiots. Also at the end of the day it’s me who needs to read them over and over again and I swear by the time I got through the book, I lost half my IQ.
