I use the scale everyday to weight my coffee shot and also time the grind. It is accurate and allows me to pull a consistent shot everytime. A neat addition to my Home Coffee Empire.

Yes, it is more expensive, but it is sturdy and solid. But be aware of water spill as my previous one stopped working after I unfortunately had a too small cup for the amount of coffee filtering through the filter holder.

This scale is great. I recently started at a coffee company, and wanted to learn more about brewing, brew methods, extraction times, etc., in order to be of more help to our customers, and so that I could know our coffee better (beyond the fact that I love chemistry, and playing with coffee like this makes me feel like I'm in the lab). I can't say that I have anything near a coffee lab, yet, but the things I needed most were a scale and a timer. This fit the bill for both of those! Although this scale is quite a bit more expensive than some of the other digital scales you'll find on Amazon, it's also a bit more precise, and it has the inclusion of a timer. It makes it a lot easier to start a timer while measuring out how many grams of water you're adding when it's right on the scale you're looking at as opposed to a separate device. On top of that, Hario is a leading brand name in coffee gear production, and I really trust their build quality. I've only had it for a couple of months, but so far I can't complain. I haven't had any major spills on the scale yet, just a couple of drops here and there, and it hasn't done any damage. I can't speak to whether or not it would function if you bathed it in water. The fact that it has a reading for a tenth of a gram seems a little over the top. I understand it's a feature for measuring out ground coffee to make sure you're getting exact measurements, so it does serve a purpose for those who REALLY really care. I think that if I were a bit more anal I'd consider it a more worthwhile feature, maybe even a necessity, but as an enthusiast I think it's a little much. All of that aside, if you're just looking for a kitchen scale DO NOT GET THIS DEVICE. You can find something a lot more affordable and that serves you just as well. I'm guessing it is a tiny minority of bakers that would actually care about things being weighed down to a tenth of a gram. I would only recommend this scale to coffee enthusiasts who are looking to get a little more scientific about their approach to coffee.
