Good but needs improvement.
I ordered this particular one because it was metal and wood - no plastic. After using and assembling, there are definitely areas that need improvement. The circular knobs to tighten the board are hard to do and my hands are very petite. I couldn’t imagine it being easier for someone with bigger hands. The knobs could be bigger or maybe a different shape for better grip. In the instruction pamphlet it says to not get the metal bits wet, which I found impossible to do - considering that the tofu is wet and the whole point of the press... are you supposed to take it fully apart to clean each time? That would be impractical, would it not? So maybe better hardware that is actually okay to get wet like a food grade stainless steel? I was honestly hoping it would be exactly that already! The bag is decent, I love the canvas material. However it is a tight fit when it is assembled, so again, are we supposed to take it apart and put it together each time you use it? Again, highly impractical. When I assembled it and used it, I had used a tool to tighten it as best as I could, and midway through tightening the tofu, it became very uneven (bolt loosened) and I had to fiddle with it midway and take it completely apart to tighten the bolt again. Could have just been user error, but still annoying. The coating on the bottom tray also came to me chipped in several places, to that I wonder what the coating is made of? If you wanted to marinate in that portion be cautious of that.As a press, I do think it works okay overall. The drainage could be a lot better- but it’s okay. I did press it for about a total of 30 min. Whenever I turned it on it’s side (like a version without the slats), it seemed it worked a bit better. Anyways, just wanted to get all my thoughts out in case it helps someone decide. It works far better than me pressing it by hand at least, so that’s a plus.

Love the Bamboo; Dislike the Squeezing Process
I bought this because I didn't want to buy yet another plastic-made kitchen tool. The bamboo is impressive and sturdy, and it's priced higher than its competitors. This tool could have come from a traditional kitchen 100 years ago which to me is a good thing. Here's the part I don't like: how you have to use it. There are two plates of bamboo in which the tofu is placed in the middle. There's two springs between the two plates and a tightening nut above the top plate to press against the tofu. First, there are too many small parts to assemble and disassemble each time you use it. I've managed to lose the spring and a washer in my first use! (However, I found them later) Second, the squeezing process is annoyingly hard on your fingers. The tofu really needs to be pushed down considerably in order to squeeze the water out. In order to do so, you turn the nut until it actually hurts your fingers applying pressure on each turn. It would have been a lot easier on my fingers had the round nut been a wing nut. Over time, someone in my household will lose the tiny parts and render the press useless. Overall, I would not recommend this tofu press until this company redesigns this with fewer parts and an easier way to press.

It works and isn't made of plastic!
I tried this last night and it was great. It was a bit fiddly to put together, but if you follow the instructions, then it isn't so bad. I found the top screw covers annoying, so I just don't use them. The only thing I don't like is having to take the entire top off to put the tofu in without touching it. I know I could just dump it out into my hand and then push it in between the bars, but I really don't want to touch soaked tofu. The fun thing about this is seeing how much liquid comes out. I squeezed my tofu quite a bit and the amount of liquid that came out was hilarious! Clean up was a bit of a challenge. To avoid spilling, I suggest doing the squeezing near a sink so you can empty it out without spilling onto the floor, like me.Washing is super easy. I left everything together and just washed with warm soapy water. It is drying as I type. The best part is... no plastic! Yay!
