Poor design
As others have mentioned, the lid slices through the rubber gasket. Don’t buy, won’t work.

EXCELLENT!!!
Sometimes I just wonder if the bad reviews are posted by other vendors, I came very close to not ordering these lids because of the bad reviews but then I noticed that the good reviews outnumber the bad reviews. I replaced these lids for my old lids that were almost triple the money and these lids blow the expensive ones away by miles. Ignore the bad reviews folks, pay attention to the good reviews and then make your choice. If worse comes to worse, you can always return ANY product to Amazon at no cost. Too many complainers in our world, complaining over NOTHING and most of the time it's someone who has no clue as to how to use the product. These are AMAZING lids and they should charge more for them.

Good idea, poor execution
Winemaking is one of my pastimes and I've been using recipes from Richard Bender's book, "Wild Winemaking." Although the recipes are for one-gallon batches, they tend to require space for somewhere between 1.25-1.5 gallons in the secondary fermentation vessel. So I thought wide-mouth Mason jars fitted with airlocks would make the perfect vessel when the gallon carboy was filled. While the idea behind this product is good, the execution isn't. The Mason jar lids are made from stainless steel and the grommets which fit the fermentation locks are very soft silicone. When the two meet, the grommets are easily torn and the seal around the stem of the fermentation lock is compromised (indicated by no bubbles in the airlock on the Mason jar while the airlock on carboy is merrily bubbling away).I managed to get only two of five jar lids to seal properly. If the edge of the hole in the lid wasn't so sharp and/or the grommet was made of a more durable material, this product would work fine.
