Excellent lens with superb image quality. Well worth the price!
I love this lens. The image quality is excellent, even at 5x magnification. Build quality is also excellent. Sure, it doesn't have any frills like autofocus or stabilization, but you aren't going to be using those for macro shots anyway. One thing worth mentioning is that due to the nature of this lens, diffraction effects are significantly amplified, especially at 5x, compared to non-macro lenses or 1x macro lenses. So to get the best image quality and sharpest photos, you'll need to stick with wider apertures and more depth of field. If you set your f-stop too high, diffraction will cause noticeable blurring of the whole image. This is nothing to do with the lens but simply physical limitations of light.

Oh now this is a FUN lens!
TLDRIf you are into Macro photography and you know what comes with that territory, this is a great lens. I recommend it, get it, it's a blast and you will find things in photos that you didn't even expect to see.The ReviewAlright, this review is based off of two little sessions, one just walking around and seeing what I could find, and another breaking open some old rotten wood to see what lived in my wood pile. Great fun to be had.My setup wasThis lens, the Laowa 25mm 2.5-5x macro set anywhere from f2.8-11On a Sony a7III (M 100 iso around 1/200)Godox V860IIS Flash set on TTLAnd an Angler Bib diffuserThe narrow size of this lens really does do a great job of letting the diffused flash get around the lens and light up the subject. The lens starts to get pretty blurry from diffraction pretty quick, f8 tends to start showing it, and anything higher it really sets in, especially at the 4-5x range. Snapping a bunch of photos and stacking them is a great idea.It is a fully manual lens, but that is very common in Macro photography and not a problem. If you want to know how to get that aspect working hit up Youtube for some quick lessons, its fun.The construction is very solid, a nice metal feel, not heavy and not unbalancing at all. The lens cap is also metal on the outside which was a nice touch. The only minor issue that I have with the lens is that the mount for the Sony seems to be ever so slightly off. When you go to unmounted the lens, it will get trapped if turned just a bit to far and you have to back up your rotation about a mm to get the lens off. Looking at my other Sony lens, they all have a small screw mounted on them that prevents this from happening, it would be nice to see that on this lens as well to prevent that stutter when trying to switch lenses. There are a ton of YouTube videos about people testing out this lens, I recommend you watch some if you haven't yet. But I can say for myself that this is a great camera lens that I really adore shooting with.I highly recommend this lens if you enjoy macro photography and want to work on getting tiny objects bigger in your frame.Have a good one!
