Reliable Classic
I went through half a dozen phaser pedals before settling on the one I should have tried first. The MXR Phase 90 just hits the sweet spot, not too much effect, not too little effect. Normally, I prefer pedals with knobs and as many features as they can cram into a pedal. While the 70s and 80s saw some incredible phase shifter pedals (BOSS PH-1, PH-2, Ibanez Bi-Phase, DOD 401, etc.), the older pedals tend to be noisy, are prone to tone-suck, and lack true-bypass. Some of them also had proprietary voltages, making them a pain to place on a pedalboard, and let's face it, at 40 years old, these pedals are bound to break down anyway. The only current phaser pedals that I compared to the MXR Phase 90 are the BOSS PH-3 and Ibanez Phaser mini. The PH-3 is digital, and it's obvious, it sounds cold and sterile. It has a lot of advanced features, and is capable of producing some wild sounds, but it comes off sounding very cold and digitally processed and not too pleasing to the ear. As for the Ibanez Mini Phaser, I really wanted to like it, and almost kept it. But the phase pattern sounded off somehow, and worse, it seemed to be prone to distorting. As I play mostly clean, that was unacceptable. Also, the 4/6 stage button on the side seemed really flimsy and prone to eventually breaking. I would also add that the MXR Phase 100 has a very different sound (10-stage) than the Phase 90 (4-stage), it is not just a Phase 90 with an extra knob. The MXR Phase 90 is beautiful in its simplicity. It works. 4-stage is good, and probably the best for most players. I don't miss extra controls with the MXR Phase 90, it does what it does very well. It may not suit everybody but I would suggest to at least give it a try if you're looking for an analog phaser pedal. Recommended.

Classic phaser at good price
The MXR Phase 90 is a classic stompbox popularized by Eddie Van Halen. At present, I own an MXR Phase 90, a Boss PH-3 Phase Shifter, and a Line 6 MM4 Modulations Modeler (with a few phaser patches), so I can compare these three units. The Phase 90 has a single "Speed" control that sets the rate of the phase, so it is simple to use. If there is a single knob, that is a good indicator that the manufacturer feels pretty good about the sound of the unit. In this case, I agree. The MXR Phase 90 is by far the cheapest of these three units. In my opinion, it also gives the best sound within its capabilities, and actually seems to boost the volume slightly. The Boss PH-3 gets a slight volume drop but it is workable, and the Line 6 MM4 has a volume drop that for me is hard to use on a guitar pedalboard because I usually don't leave modulations on for an entire song, but turn them on/off in different sections (unless its a chorus). Of the three, the Phase 90 has the least versatility. You can imitate the Phase 90 sound on both of the other units (the Line 6 MM4 does a slightly better job) and both the PH-3 and MM4 have more sonic possibilities. Also, the Boss PH-3 will give a lot more spacey extremes than the Phase 90 which stays in a "normal" range. But again, of the three the MXR Phase 90 sounds the best of the three at what it can do. Bottom Line: (1) A classic pedal at a great price (2) Great sound & slight volume boost (3) Simple to use (4) Limited sonic possibility, "safe" or "normal" guitar sounds (no crazy extremes) (5) Beautiful bright orange color, you can't miss it (6) Compact size does not eat up pedalboard space

It's not just a Phase Dad ..
Great old school phaser. Built like a tank with great functionality, standard size for modern pedals. Super versatile pedal. I don't think these have as much precision and accuracy is some of the newer phasers by mxr but you really can't go wrong with this pedal.

One of the greatest sounds ever created
One of my favorite pedals. If you haven’t used this pedal, you’ve heard it. Add some distortion or overdrive and it produces amazing depth to chunky riffs and deep chugs. I love it. You’ll love it. It’s like magic. Buy this pedal.

Gran pedal!
Gran pedal. Me gusta utilizarlo antes de los drives, creo que logra un sonido mas organico en mi pedalboard que colocandolo en el sector de las modulaciones. Un pedal simple, clasico, no falla.

Superb High Quality Beauty!
Built like a tank. Superb crisp, clean, noise-free phasing sound. Simple to use and it looks fantastic! I bought this as I'm a Sex Pistols fan and the Phase-90 was used on Anarchy in the U.K. (Yes, I bought it to use on just one song. Saddo!) There is a retro '74 reissue of this pedal but it works only with a battery, I'm told, but this pedal is good enough. A beautiful retro style effect. Excellent for any guitarist living in the past. I have no idea if anyone young would give a monkey's about it though, but I luurrvv it!

Pedalino iconico, mancava alla mia pedaliera, una regolazione soltanto sull'intensità dell'effetto, qualità alta, molto soddisfatto.
