Everything Is Lies: From the Sunday Times bestselling author of Dear Amy

Four and a half stars
I really enjoyed this and, without spoilering, was delighted that it didn't go in the direction I was expecting from the blurb. It went off somewhere totally different, which was original and surprising. Sophia finds her mother hanged and her father badly injured and goes on to try to discover what it is in her mother's past that may have led to this. With an array of interesting characters, this had me quickly turning pages as the plot unfolded whilst Sophia desperately tried to find a missing notebook belonging to her mother, in an effort to prove she would never have hanged herself.I was going to give this 5 stars, rounding down to four and a half, but ended up giving 4, rounding up to four and a half as there were a couple of things I found a little strange. Firstly, Sophia's mother's notebooks take the form of a diary, written as a 'letter' to her daughter. This is a method deployed by the author to take us back to the events of 30 years ago that, ultimately, led to her hanging. All well and good. However, there are several fairly explicit sexual exploits mentioned which I am not sure a mother would tell her daughter about. Also, Ms Callaghan has an annoying turn of phrase at times. For example, she describes someone as having her hair in a 'menopausal bob' and someone else as having a 'menopausal barrel midriff.' Whilst I can sort of understand what she means by the latter, I am wondering what I would get if I requested my hairdresser give me the former! However, I did really enjoy this and will certainly look out the author's other book.

Fabulous read !
I not long ago finished “Dear Amy” which I thoroughly enjoyed!I was so impressed by the author that I hurriedly ordered this one for my next read and I have to say - it was even better !This book will have you hooked from the start....The characters are so well drawn and easy to imagine that you are immediately fully immersed in the storyline with all it’s strange twists and turns. The ending certainly had a twist that I wasn’t expecting and again I was sad to finish a book by this fabulous author !Thank goodness she’s just written another - I have it on pre-order!

Brilliant!
I loved this, it kept me hooked all the way through. I found that I couldn't wait for my day to be over so I could get back to reading it! It's a really good psychological thriller that has a different story to your usual one. And I loved the twists in the end when it all came together. Definitely recommend!
