beautiful craftsman-like results
Used this product on an antique mahogany veneer mirror, and it turned out great. After removing the 70's style "antiqueing" (3 layers of paint), I wanted to try to match the refinishing technique to the age of the item. I ignored the directions on the container and found some info about "hand rubbed finishes" online...this product was mentioned, along with some other Watco products. Very nice quality line. Granted, it was labor-intensive and certainly not a quick-fix job, but the results were beautiful. The mirror ended up with a low-gloss (not really matte) finish that has a nice warmth and emphasizes the grain of the wood and age of the item.

Easy to Apply, Good Protection
I bought this for an oiled wood Crate and Barrel desk, as it was finished from the factory with the same stuff. I was a little apprehensive about waxing, just because I'm used to harder paste waxes and they tend to be a pain to reapply regularly. This stuff is totally different, and very easy to apply. You simply use a rag and wipe it on, wait 10 minutes, and then buff it off. It leaves a nice satin shine that brightens the wood but doesn't make it reflective or anything. It gives a good amount of water resistance, as I later watered my desk plant and splashed a puddle onto the surface of the desk. I wiped it up with a rag and there was no water stains on the wood, so the Satin Wax is doing it's job. I reapply the wax about once a month, since the desk gets a lot of traffic. It doesn't protect against any physical damage, so you still need to be careful and not scratch the wood surface or bump it.I also bought the Rejuvenating Oil from Watco, which you can use along with this product. It actually dissolves the Satin Wax and re-hydrates the oiled wood, and then you can re-wax as needed. I use the oil on the desk when it starts to look dry. I highly recommend both of these products, they're great for easily up-keeping oiled wood and furniture.
