I’ve been using the ProGrade Digital PG09 card reader for my content workflow, and honestly, this is one of those tools that doesn’t look exciting at first—but makes a huge difference once you start using it. This reader features USB 3.2 Gen 2, which means it can handle speeds up to 10 Gbps. In real-world use, paired with CFexpress Type A cards, I’m consistently getting around 700–850 MB/s transfer speeds. With SD UHS-II cards, speeds are closer to 250–300 MB/s, which is expected. Where this really stands out is in actual workflow performance. Transferring a 100 GB project takes about 2 minutes using CFexpress, while the same transfer on an SD card can take up to 6 minutes. That’s a big difference, especially if you’re moving multiple files per day. Over time, this saves a lot of time and keeps your workflow efficient. The build quality is solid. It has a durable aluminum construction that helps with heat dissipation, and the dual-slot design (CFexpress Type A + SD UHS-II) is very convenient. You can use both slots at the same time, although bandwidth is shared. One important thing to keep in mind is that the reader itself is not the bottleneck—the card you use will determine your speeds. If you’re only using SD cards, you won’t fully benefit from what this reader can offer. Overall, this is a great investment if you work with high-resolution video, large photo files, or professional cameras like Sony systems that use CFexpress Type A. It’s reliable, fast, and built for serious content creators. Highly recommended if speed and efficiency matter in your workflow.

Fantastic reader, getting rock solid 240 MB/s with Sandisk extreme pro UHS-II V90 SD card. Magnetic base is strong enough that the reader didn't slide around when you insert it remove the SD card, haven't tried the CF express type A but overall excellent reader. Price is worth the cost. Good build quality, not metal but feels solid.

I have been using Prograde cards for quite a few years now for photography and have had zero issues. I recently switched to using CFexpress type A and needed a reader, so did not hesitate with the ProGrade option. This is not an inexpensive card reader, but it is absolutely a professional piece of equipment. Having both CFexpress and SD slots is perfect for me because those are the two forms of memory that I shoot with. Overall build quality is excellent with a great sturdy feel and the built in magnet is awesome. You can attach it to your computer but I actually just magnetically attach it underneath my metal laptop stand to keep it safely out of the way. Import speeds have also been great so far using a MacBook Pro.

Read speed on both slots is good as expected (>500 MB/s on CFA and ~250 MB/s on SD). Writing to CFA also worked well as expected. It's nearly useless for writing to SD cards however -- I tested two of these on two different computers with known good SD cards and never saw write speeds >5 MB/s. And that was when it didn't outright error out. (My camera writes to those SD cards at about 40 MB/s.) Only deducting one star since this device is mainly for reading. Screenshots included of CFA write speed, SD write speed, and error that occurred during SD write. I've also included a photo of the card models I used for testing.

The magnet. This seems like an odd hook, but for me it immediately clicked. I am a full time photographer living and creating from my van with a minimal workstation. Card readers sliding off my lap board has been a regular occurrence over the past three years. It works amazing. I didn't expect anything difference on performance from any other card reader I have used. This card reader is fast. Between the magnet and speed this is my card reader going forward.

Using a quality USB-C to USB-C cable, this gets read speeds that max out the read rates on my CFExpress and UHS-3 SD cards. Using a cheap USB-C to USB-A cable it is about 1/4 the max speed - so use a quality cable!

It is fast and well made but that is not why I bought this one, I bought it for its magnet, you don't know how useful that based magnet is untill you start using it!

Ayant un APN Sony pouvant accueillir des CFexpress type A, j'ai acquis ce lecteur afin de ne pas avoir à brancher mon APN pour transférer les médias. Belle finition et petit point pratique : le dessous est aimanté. Ça me permet de la coller à ma tour et de ne pas avoir peur qu'il bascule. Transfert super rapide. Rien à dire.
