Miss Thing Is Back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was so thrilled to hear of Me'shell's new outing and she is back and as bad as ever!!!! The opening track starts with "You sell your soul like you sell a piece of a** and it is all uphill from there! She takes absolutely NO prisoners!!! This CD is reminiscent of her first two outings which were quite simply phenomenal. Her fourth offering has a strong rock sensibility with cutting edge observations about society, religion, politics, love and of course sex. She beautifully fuses such musical genres as rock, jazz, soul, new age and R&B punctuated by startling poetic additions as well as spoken works from the likes of Angela Davis and Dick Gregory, no less. It reminds me of the Last Poets and Gil Scott-Heron work prevalent in the 70s. Some of the poetry is heartbreaking and the observations are harsh, painful, but nonethless evoke discussion. This is a classic example of such works by the above-mentioned and most notably Marvin Gaye in his social commentaries but from a feminine perspective. The observations of these artists are just as timely today as they were 30 years ago which I think is another point Me'shell is trying to make. This may also explain why this CD evokes memories of the quinessential black female revolutionary of the 70s with the big 'Fro, just oozing sensuality. In this case however, it is an equally senusal female who is bald, black, and beautiful. If you have problems with a woman celebrating the love of another woman, this CD is also not for you. But if we can embrace such blatant opportunitsts as Eminem and producers/manufacturers, you can certainly deal with thought-provoking commentary from the likes of Me'shell NdgeOcello! This CD is so exciting that I went back to purchase the accoustic one just before this one which is totally different but no less exhibits the range and talent of this remarkable artist. If you are ready to elevate your mind and get ready for a wild ride, pick this CD up. You are indeed in for a thrill. It is not for the faint of heart but is a must for any music collection. This CD just [flows]!!!!!!!!

BADUISM, D'ANGELO AND PRINCE CLASSICS ROLLED INTO ONE
I thought I would purchase the Album and play the hell out of "Trust"..but I popped it in last weekend and rode out; I found it impossible to skip one track--I haven't listened to anything else the entire weekend. If you ever listened to experimental Prince you know how he lures you into his world..and once you're in, you ain't gettin out..That's this Album from top to bottom...To be honest this Masterpiece and Plantation Lullabies need to be Promoted and Released RIGHT NOW!--I hate it when Artist are way too ahead of their time...The race, sex and social topics she covers are IN YOUR FACE, in the Media and trifling ATTITUDES permeating all around us..these Albums would "Shake Things Up" because people are becoming more every day conscious of what's happening around them--rebirth of the 60's..You got Angela Davis heading off the tracks-- it can't get no better..There's two Bass heavy Baduism type tracks on here that's Funky as hell...And the rest is atmospheric, deep-soulful rhythm and more funk...TRUST--the reason i purchased the Album-- initially conjured Prince...but the more I listen to the lyrics and arrangement-- ADINA HOWARD--and that's with the upmost Respect for both Bad Azz Artists...Bottom line the Sista is Bad to the bone and in rare space...Meshell NdegeOcello can tap her Prime anytime she want because she's always in the moment--even when she's far too ahead for us to catch up. Catch up I did.. but Right on time.

Love this CD
One of my all time favorite CD's! The only issue I have is that tracks 15, 16, and 17 don't play which are the some of the best songs on the ALBUM!

Unbelievable....
Let me first state that I had huge, almost unreachable, expectations for this cd. I thought that the creativity of her first two albums and mellowness of "Bitter" could hypothetically combine into a delicious treat. That metaphor surely fits because my mouth was salivating...ok not that bad but u get my gist. After just hearing the first song, i declared this album a masterpiece and a complete listen confirmed my proclamation. I mean, "Damn...", it's got everything...slow jams for the lovers, poetry for the intellects, radio hits for the cornballs and even go-go for the party people plus the tightest song i heard in a long while, "Criteria". Actually, by breaking down this one song, you can get a feel of the whole album.First of all, this joint is about love which is no surprise since it is R&B. However, if you know anything about MeShell, u know this love thing encompasses the whole spectrum. All the meanings collide beautifully throughout this song as well the cd. Then you got this thing called the bass guitar that she plays so exquisitively, so Mingus-like that it is bound to move you regardless of tempo. Then the band picks up the tempo double time midway through the song, jazzifies an already tight beat with the piano, horns, and drums, and cooly settles down in anti-climax worthy of something...tight...and her singing voice fits this band, like Sade's fits her, like a glove fits my hand. That is it in a nutshell...superb instrumentalists under master guidance without regard to convention matured to near perfection...i hope u like it...i did...

Thank God for people like Me'Shell. The music world is better for it. A good mix of musical prowess. A bit of the old and new style combined to create a unique flavour.

Me'Shell - Cookie
I truly enjoy the music on this CD, however, if you are conservative I would not recommend this CD since the lyrics are very explicit.

The bees knees of bass and funk
This album was recommended by Janeck Gwizdala, bassist extraordinaire and fine musician. Yes, it is a wonderful album. Not something I would have sought out myself, so the recommendation has been a welcome one. I also would now recommend this to anyone looking for an album of interesting funk and vibe, as well as thoughtful and inventive lyrics. Personal favourites are, Pocketbook and GOD, FEAR, MONEY.

Make no mistake, buy meshell !
MeShell NdegeoCello is an awesomely talented musician. Beautiful voice and able to let her bass sing. I only discovered her only this year and ordered all her albums. The best decision I made, really. Make no mistake, this is intelligent stuff. 'Cookie' is a joy to listen at with many layers to discover time after time. From Raw/funky/swing to sensitive/ sad. It goes deep with "Akel Dama" which is impressive and so sadly true. To me, this song sets her apart from other (famous) artists.
