A Simple Trick to Mount the Base Bumper
Like many of you, I also initially struggled to mount the base bumper onto the bottom rim of the Kik-Step Step Stool. I have limited strength. After substantial frustration, I discovered the following method that makes it possible to mount it with only a modest amount of effort. As per the brief instructions provided, push the rubber base bumper over the Kik-Step and down as far as it will go so it rests against the lip at the bottom, making sure the slit in the rubber base bumper faces down (that is, towards the metal lip of the step stool). At this point, besides a bit of strength, make sure you have a small, sturdy, adjustable clamp that has very padded jaws (if using a clamp without padding, pad the jaws with some small pieces of leather). Using your strength, perhaps aided by a screw driver or pliers slipped between the rubber base bumper and the metal rim, get a very small amount of the slit in the rubber base bumper to slide over the metal rim. Momentarily holding that in place, clamp it so that the rubber base bumper does not dismount from the rim. Now, successively working around from that point, pull and mount the next adjoining bit of the rubber base bumper slit onto the rim. Don’t let it dismount; hold it into place with your fingers. Successively work your way around the rim. After a few inches, it may be advisable to move the adjustable clamp to the new area in which you are mounting or, better yet if you have another sturdy clamp, apply that a few inches from the first one. By the time you get about half of the base bumper mounted onto the rim, it should be possible to mount the remainder without further clamping. When done, remove the clamps, step back and admire your work.

Thought I wouldn't be able to find one of these!
I have had this Kik-Step stool for quite a while (20 years). It's so handy in the closet, kitchen, anywhere that is a little higher than I can reach. When the rubber gasket on the bottom broke I thought I might have to replace the whole thing. This replacement rubber gasket was exactly what I needed. I took me a while to figure out how to get it on but once I did it was perfect.

No more sharp metal edge.
Takes a little persistance to put on, but quite secure once you do. The original ring had dried out and cracked. I had glued it back together but I was pretty sure it would crack again if I put it back on unless I treated the rubber to renew it, a hassle. So it sat around. Then I saw that I could buy a replacement from the manufacturer. That was $28, almost half the price of the stool. No way. But Amazon had it for $18, still a little expensive, but reasonable. Cleaned up my old stool and put on the new ring. Like new.

Takes stretching
Takes sitting in the sun and a lot of stretching to get it on. Once on it seems fine.

Perfect fit
I got this to replace a cracked bumper that I had on my 20 year old Kik-step. It was initially hard to put on, but I got help from another person. The key is to stretch open the channel while also stretching the bumper when putting it in place. When we did that it went on easily, and fits perfectly.

Decent replacement
This base bumper replacement worked for my 30-40 year old stool. For me, it was a 2 person job. I tried it myself but could not keep it in place while installing the entire bumper.
