Chirper Blue Jay Statue by Michael Carr Designs - Outdoor Bird Figurine for gardens, patios and lawns (80031)

It says ‘do not expose to moisture’. It’s a garden statue. And it can’t be exposed to moisture?!? The battery compartment is across the bottom of the statue and is not protected or sealed in any special way. It’s very silly and kindof a cheat to sell a ‘garden statue’ that cannot be exposed to moisture. It’s a design flaw to put the plastic door for batteries on the bottom of a garden statue. Even if you did bring the statue indoors every time it rained, sitting this ‘garden statue’ in the garden is going to get the electronics damp and dirt is going to get into the battery compartment, just by sitting on the damp ground. It’s just not suitable for the outdoors.

Would have given it a higher review - BUT - red paint is chipped off in a few spots under the chin. Defiantly will need to repair that and add protectant for outside use. For those having issues with sound - I had to use the batteries that came with it (hidden in the box). Regular AA batteries did not work. As for realistic sound - it is very close to some of the calls that my Pilleated do make. Looked forward to putting it outside and using the motion detection - BUT - SADLY it says - not to use with batteries if there is a chance it can get wet. So not sure why then it is advertised for both indoor and outdoors since even my covered porch gets wet in storms ??? Think the feet are the wrong color - mine are painted glossy black. I bought it on sale - so still think it is a great value for any bird lover on your lists.

I ordered this four times. The first couple birds did not work but Oh my goodness what a cute bird. So cute! I just had to try again to get a working bird and I am so glad I did! In fact I ended up sending back two but keeping three. They are not small at all. I would say these are about 25% larger than a real Robin. The sound is a little corny but its bright! Outside it sounds much better than inside. What I appreciate best about this Robin statue is, in the yard I have placed these in the shade and within sight so as they are in the garden and among my shrubs, I can see them. If these were the actual size of a Robin they would get lost in the landscape. Its fun to hear them go off and really I know they are going to stop working eventually despite changing batteries, they are well worth owning for the design. They are designed to stay upright-Hence the portly figure.

Boy was I surprised at the size of this bird! I thought it would be life sized, since it looks realistic, but it is huge! As big as a seagull! Also, I would have thought the motion sensor would have been in the eye, but no it is inside the open mouth. The problem with that is that you can't put it up on a shelf or in a nest to look life like, because it sticks out too far due to the tail sticking out directly behind its beak! The last problem with the placement of the motion detector is you have to be directly in front of it for it to work and the beal seems to narrow the motion catching ability.

These birds are as advertised but I wish they were smaller. I bought them for indoor use and enjoy the birdsong but find myself “hiding” them from immediate view. Just so big!

This review is for Michael Carr Designs 80019 Pileated Woodpecker Outdoor Statue, Chirper.The sculpture is nicely detailed and quite realistic but the sound bears no resemblance to the actual bird.

It doesn’t look like a bluebird sound like a bluebird it’s pretty obnoxious. If it didn’t come in the Styrofoam stuff then flakes all over the place I might send it back.

This is a beautiful example of the wood peckers we have on our property. Also, the song is really close to the real thing. Price is good for this statue. I LOVE IT!
