This is loud, the loudest disk I have ever had, louder than 3.5inch disks with a fan. Anyone else has this problem?

No. I always avoid 5TB PDs. I am currently awaiting 16 years of my photographic work to be recovered from a 5TB Western Digital monstrosity. AVOID any WD drives as the build quality is so poor these days. Shame on them, and shame on me for not being able to triple back-up this irreplaceable work at the time. I have many 2TB and 4TB Seagate One Touch Drives and they are very quiet, fast and (fingers crossed) very reliable, unlike WD who have let me down several times now. Never again. If you hear any clicking noises try to back-up all your data and return the drive immediately. If you can't access your data you may have to get the data recovered (included maybe?). I am currently using John Lewis, as WD have been uncontactable (Covid excuses, etc.) and Amazon didn't want to help at all, despite it being only a few weeks old. I know several people who feel the same as I do about Amazon, WD and the 5TB thing. Google and cross-reference for advice on all this, obv. I am currently awaiting some reasonable prices to start, concerning Seagate 4TB SSDs, for my Portfolio files. Good luck. PS The only problem I have experienced with Seagate drives is the often terrible Amazon packaging and their many damaged parcels. I never accept such fragile and important equipment when delivered this way. Please... sort it out, Amazon!

Can you back up files from both Mac and windows on to the same hard drive?

Yes, just format the drive as exFAT, it is cross-compatible.

Will this download footage from a ringcam device?

Ringcam devices are cloud based. You pay a subscription for them to store your videos, so you can't directly attach this to the device. You would have to download all the videos individually from their website to your Laptop/PC then you would be able to store them on this.
