The Cult of We: Wework, Adam Neumann, and the Great Startup Delusion

I Worked for WeWork - This is Golden!
Fascinating reporting and really helped to pull back the curtain on so many details that were in many cases, just rumors. The 30,000’ view is also super helpful and provides a global context. Is anything missing? Probably some hope for the principles of “we.” Adam was definitely a deluded messenger. Hopefully we never lose sight though of the message. “We” is in each and every one of us. Enlivening that, for progress, may just have to be leaderless but also, actively collaborative. Both of the Neumans failed spectacularly at that. Hopefully their kids will learn very different lessons as they navigate a criminal level of inheritance and decide perhaps, to rewrite their parent’s legacy of failure.

Riveting read about an entire business era!
What a great read! The authors did a fantastic job of not only piecing together and telling the story of the rise and fall of WeWork but also explaining an entire business era. Not being in tech or business, I found the book riveting and all the business jargon well explained. Son and Neumann are modern Phaethon and Helios to me. I felt like I was reading part history, part myth, and part psychological drama on the level of Bad Blood. I also enjoyed finding out more details about the various characters, including Rebekah, than any documentary or article I’ve read on the subject. The authors did a great job piecing these details and I stayed up late too many nights to finish the book, but it was well worth it!

the Cult of We: the power of journalists to change the workd
I generally don’t read business or tech books but hubris always wins me. I was amazed at how fast paced this was and the intimate details of Adam Neumanns life. Most heartfelt was the fact that two journalists could make an impact on a CEOs greed and bring him back down to ground. Ultimately it was these journalists, not Adam Neumann , who changed a little bit of the world.
