Great Budget Stylus
This is my second time round with this Stylus...I've tried the AT-VMN Series C & E, the OM Omega & 10, and the AT-XP3. The AT - XP5 Cart/Styli is the one I am coming back to, due to a few factors. The XP Cart is @ 5.5mv, which results in a good difference/boost in the output. On my modest Set-up, Bass response is good, centered, a bit heavy compared to other Carts/Styli Combos but not obstructive (Similar to the VNM95E, I have to turn my Bass down 10% & Treb up 10% for the sweet spot, & the XP3 is a little less Bass response, centered, and heavy). The Mids Sound good, the Treb is good, not brittle, (a little less bright than the OM's) and the sparkle is still there. I would consider this a warm Set-up with good separation and soundstage (when a good slab of wax that has these characteristics is playing). Tracks nicely with a wide tracking weight range (2.0g - 4.0g), mine is @ the low end of 2.4g with no issues, and this combo is petty forgiving to vinyl (Clicks/Pops/External Movement) compared to some of the others I've had. Plus, the Cart works with the AT-VMN95 Series (IMO the Cart makes the VMN95's sound better) and the XP5 Styli for under $50. Considering all of these aspects are what have made this my go to for my modest Set-Up, that consists of...(Fluance RT-82 w/Acrylic Platter, ATN-XP cart/5 stylus. Nobsound T3 Phono Amp, Aiyima A07 Pro, Kicker KB6B, & Polk PSW10 Sub...Simple Low Cost Setup)...Happy Listening

Perfect match for Audio-Technica lp120xusb
If you're looking for a nice replacement stylus for the vm95 cartridges this is very much a worthwhile contender. Yes, it's aimed at DJ use however, don't let that turn you off if you're looking to replace the VM 95e stylus that has gone drastically up in price since its introduction. As a matter of fact, for those of us who have the Audio-Technica lp120 which essentially carries the same tonearm assembly as the DJ series 140, this stylus is probably a better match as far as its compliance rating for the mass of that tonearm. I currently own the entire collection of various stylus profiles for the vm95e cartridge and I find myself going back to this one every single time. Let's face it, for those of us who spin records and do needle drops on a continuous basis... it's very seldom that we will listen to an entire album before we switch to another one.. or over to a 45 and back again. If we're honest with one another that's how we all listen to music when we have a large collection. The suspension on THIS stylus is geared towards that type of activity, and that said, it's a little more on the rugged side than the standard audiophile offerings. if you turn the stylus over on its back you will notice there is a screw... ever so small.. on the suspension end of things. This is a tie wire that you will see on not only most DJ cartridge stylus assemblies but also higher-end audiofile assemblies with more extreme stylus profiles. In my many years of owning various turntables and many different cartridge configurations, that tie wire really helps the suspension by keeping it precise and taught. Upper end audiophile cartridges do it for precision movement of the suspension system to stylus contact where a DJ stylus does it for the extra weight; but hence, they perform the same service. Which brings me back to a point with this stylus and this particular turntable and tonearm configuration. For all intents and purposes although not aimed at the DJ market, the lp120xusb..... particularly in its tonearm assembly, IS a DJ turntable tonearm with a middle to upper amount of mass which favors a slightly higher tracking force and benefits greatly from a tire wire configuration in the stylus suspension.. Set up properly, it performs every bit as good- if not better in some regards, than the standard vm95e stylus that comes on the turntable. That said, given a slightly lower compliance rating the resonant frequency is moved up the chain and you're rewarded with better bass extension without muddiness and positive contact on a continuum with the record groove. You will find that you need less anti-skate and it's a far superior stylus to use on old beater 45 records and the like. The sound is robust... The output is higher, and your 90 times less likely to do stylus or suspension damage when bouncing back and forth between LPs and 45s or however you play your music. and you'll find that your tonearm "behaves" much better on this turntable with a lot less stylus wobble due to tonearm cartridge mismatch that was noticeable with the standard stylus assembly... Not that the vm95e isn't any good it surely is! But it's better matched honestly to a tonearm with less mass... Also if you follow things written about this stylus, you will note that it has a wide profile. With that said, it makes it the ideal stylus play those older records in your collection such as your mono microgrooves without the fear of the contact patch touching the bottom of the groove that you might notice with a taller thinner stylus profile. It's designed that way on purpose... And one more notation... If you've already purchased this stylus, and you notice a little bit of brash and harshness...it's designed to be mounted with a 20 degree tracking angle which you will not obtain on a standard audio Technica lp120usb without switching from a 3 mm standard mat to a 6 mm one... or taking two mats on top of each other. So bear that in mind if you're turntable does not have a tonearm height adjustment. Stacking 2 mats on the lp 120 USB will put your tonearm level which is where it needs to be in order for this to work really well for you. So in conclusion, in my opinion, this is the stylus to get before this one skyrockets in price and it's realized that this stylus is far above where it's actually priced at as far as value and performance. To me it's probably one of the best value deals for a general all-around stylus available. I think I'll be buying about 10 of them... 😉
