The novel has brilliant writing . it might not be taken as literary fiction but popular fiction. Is worth a read. One learns many historical facts about Choza empire and kings. I started reading it when I came to know about a debate about weather the Choza were Hindu or not. I am glad that this novel clarified my doubt. Thanks for such a good translation in English. More of Indian language books should be translated in English so that we the non speakers of those languages may read those timeless classics. I am eager to read its all parts.

The translation is capable of getting u hooked until the last page. Completed it over a weekend.Hard to believe a novel of such clarity and thought was written long back. I developed a profound interest in narration on this universal theme of rajathanthiram. Ordered 2 and 3.. seriously waiting for Pavithra mam's 4th and 5th translation.

Don't watch the painfully average movie adaptation, read this masterpiece instead and enjoy every page of it. (It might not be easy to get into but once you do, you won't stop till you finish the fifth book)
