Scooby Doo Meets The Lego Games
Scooby Doo First Frights is a beat 'em up game that either pays homage to, or flat out steals from, the Lego games. The formula is pretty much the same with only minor differences. However, if you like this kind of game play, you'll probably get your couple bucks worth. The story is that The Mystery Inc Gang are taking a vacation, and are heading to Keystone Castle for an Eating Contest, but first they have to solve other mysteries. These take place in a High School Musical, A creepy Carnival, a spooky coastal town, before finally going to the castle. Classic Scooby Doo fare, so fans are sure to enjoy. As mentioned, the gameplay borrows heavily from the Lego Games. You fight enemies, break objects to gather scooby snacks (the currency, we'll talk about what you can buy with it later) and respawn in the same spot after death. Like the Lego Games, it lacks challenge, but what it does not lack is charm. There are multiple levels in each episode. Each episode includes a chase with Shaggy and Scooby, and a boss battle, after which the crook is unmasked. The levels give hints about who it is and try to make you think. The third level is really the only one that does, in the others it's very obvious. Correctly guessing the crook rewards you their mask. After each episode, the costumes you find in the levels are available for purchase. Before you buy them, the costumes are locked to the level they were worn in. These costumes change their attacks and non-story based dialogue, but the abilities remain the same.Speaking of abilities, each character has their own. Fred is the strongman who can push and pull heavy objects or turn cranks, Daphne is agile and can climb poles, Velma is smart and can operate terminals, Shaggy has a yo-yo and can grapple, and scooby is....a dog so he can use the dog doors. Playing the level the first time, you're locked as the characters picked for you, but you can replay the levels in explore mode, and can swap out characters on the fly (save for the very first level, and any chase or boss battle) The first level is the tutorial. It has you play as all the characters so you can see what they can do and who you like best. It does a good job teaching you what you need to know for the journey ahead. The game even lets you play as the enemies...once you buy them that is. There's also five hidden costumes that are only unlockable with cheats. Let me save you the trouble real quick.2839 Daphne Karate Black Belt costume4826 Fred Knight costume1585 Scooby-Doo Egyptian costume3726 Shaggy Native American costume6588 Velma Pirate outfitThe only real problems I have with the game are how long it takes to spawn a character in explore mode, and how clumsy two player mode is. Yes, this game has co op. But there's no split screen like the newer Lego games, so you have to stay together. Yet when playing alone, if a character gets left behind, they teleport next to you. That aside I really enjoy the game. For presentation, the game NAILS that Scooby Doo vibe. Everyone looks and sounds like they should, and they even included a laugh track. The bosses all say "And I would've gotten away with it too, if it weren't for you meddling kids!" All the classic scooby doo troupes are present and accounted for, it nearly feels like an unaired prototype Scooby Doo show in and of itself. So that's Scooby Doo First Frights. Is it worth your time? Well if you're looking for a challenging game, or don't like the Lego games, this won't be for you, but if you do enjoy this kind of game, or are a die hard Scooby Doo fan, you'll probably have fun with it, as it can be a nice distraction if you're bored. Don't spend a lot for it, but do pick it up if you find it for a reasonable price.

This is now my favorite game
I am what I consider a "remedial gamer". I was never hardcore into gaming, I just play what I enjoy playing. I bought this for my old PS2 and I have to say, it is now by far my favorite PS2 game. It's challenging enough to keep my interest but not so impossibly hard that I give up and stop wanting to play the game at all (I'm looking at you Kingdom of Hearts). It also helps me work on my "gaming skills" so that maybe one day I can graduate to the big kids level of gaming (Skyrim looks hella fun). The only thing I don't like about this game is that I wish it was longer. I tore through the four episodes in a matter of days. Ah well at least I'm finding that re-play is just as fun as the first time I played through.

A Blast for all Ages
I have two children ages 3 and 6. I can say without a doubt this is one of their favorite games to play. They are easily entertained for hours trying to get through the levels. I loved the fact there was limited reading which allowed them to figure out sections without me having to stop whatever I was doing to read the directions to them. There aren't too many games out there that are actually age appropriate for small children. Both my boys are huge Scooby Doo fans so I was really happy to see how much enjoyment they got from this. Also they were actually able to play the game til the very end without getting bored. Might not be a good buy for an older kid but for the younger crowd a real pleaser.

A little too easy
My seven year old nephews liked the game. They were excited that it was a Scooby Doo game. They found this game to be too easy though. Please note that they do not usually spend unlimited hours playing the games. They both said that they were done with it after one weekend. If your seven year old wants a bit of a challenge this might not be the game. Another note,.. good clean fun. Uncle Bruce.

Great!
Used to have it on the DS with my little brothers, so I thought it’d be better on the system we played the most in our early childhood. It works great and the disc was in very good condition. An unexpected surprise when I opened the box was FOUR copies of the game… cases and all. Should’ve contacted the seller but it’s far too late now and I expected it was on purpose anyway. But still… I payed under $13 and got three extra copies? Guess I could put them on eBay or something. I’d take a picture, but I honestly don’t feel like getting out of bed right now.

OK but...
seems to be a glich of some kind whenever attacking, will pause on almost every attack. Can be extremely frustrating while trying to play. The concept of the game seems to be enjoyable if you can work through the glich.

Super fun!
Super fun video game! The graphics are cute and the characters can do great jumping and wear funny outfits. My 5 year old and I play together as well as my 8 year old and I. Girls and boys love it. It's one of our favorites. We like that there are a lot of levels to unlock so it goes on for a while.
