#14 Welder's Glass Solar Eclipse and Sun Viewer-Pleasing Green Image of The Sun - Made in USA

Many people wanted to use it. It’s great for science teachers.

With the latest solar cycle bringing more and larger sunspots, I bought this so I could take a quick look every day. I will also use it for solar eclipse viewing in the future.

My original review in 2017: Worked great and kept my eyes protected during a once in a lifetime total solar eclipse.Update in January of 2020: I decided to update my review because someone posted a question that asked "How many for $9.95?" I answered that question as follows, and thought that it would be helpful to include the same information in this review, because of the specific reason I chose this product instead of so many others that were being sold at the time:One. I bought mine when Amazon was selling it for $19.95 prior to the 2017 eclipse, and it was well worth the money. I chose this product by Rainbow Symphony specifically because it was (and still is) one of only a small number of products listed by the American Astronomical Society as having been "verified by an accredited testing laboratory to meet the ISO 12312-2 international safety standard for such products."

Most excellent device to have to view the Sun. The view hole is a standard size welding lens and they used a good quality shade 14 lenses. It is securely held in a three-fold cardboard card. I have spent a few hours with it on a Sunny cloudless day and taken pictures through it. I like how big it is, as in all my playing, I never looked at the Sun or had dots in my eyes when I closed them. Great Solar Viewer!Now, why did I give it only four stars? The hard cardboard only has one smooth side, the rest are very sharp and I get paper cuts easy. It was a quick fix with some clear postal packing tape made by 3M. I ran the tape around the edge of the card and pressed it down on each side. Now it is a FANTASTIC SOLAR VIEWER!

This a relatively inexpensive viewer that I find to be better than the glasses you can also find on Amazon. It's high quality welder's glass which is VERY important when gazing at the sun! I know the glasses are safe but this seems much better to me. You can easily view solar spots with your eyes with this. DO NOT USE any type of binoculars or telescope with it!! It has insightful information about the sun and eclipses, etc., as well as safety information.My one complaint would be that the material around the glass is just thick cardboard. It's fine but if you travel with this or it gets wet it absorbs that wear and tear. For the price it should be manufactured with plastic or have a coating or seal over the cardboard to make it hold up better to wear and tear from regular usage.

I purchased this in advance of the 2017 total solar eclipse. Direct observation of the Sun is dangerous and can cause blindness. This item provides a safe experience. I was completely satisfied and had a great view of the partial phases of the eclipse with it.

Great product. Does what it supposed to do.
