Best Hendrix Book Yet
This book knocked me out and I devoured it in a couple of days. I've read hundreds of rock books and this one hits the sweet spot by being based primarily on interviews with all sorts of folks that worked with or interacted with Jimi in some form. From family members and loved ones, to his own band members, rock stars of the day, and all off the managers, record producers, concert promoters and even the words of regular fans like you and me. This book should be required reading for any hardcore Hendrix fan or even those new to his music. I would be nuts not to mention that this book is BEAUTIFUL and colorful rare images of the artist and associated memorabilia are heavily peppered liberally throughout. Amazeballs. Tops!

The Real Story of Jimi and The Experience
The history of Jimi according to people that saw him, knew him, and worked with him. Has some great photos (most in bkack&white).

Poor binding and manufacturing
This is a fantastic book written in the most inspiring style. As Hendrix drew upon others for his sound these authors have done the same. Their use of others to narrate the story is amazing. It is a sequence of those in his life and time telling it from their viewpoint. The publishing is a sad effort with no quality control. The binding string has in repeated locations torn the pages. I suspect evidence of too much tension during the production process. If I could find a copy in the shops without these problems I would trash this copy and replace it.

"HE'S UP THERE WITH MILES DAVIS AND CHARLIE PARKER AS SOMEBODY WHO WAS A VIRTUOSO." PETE TOWNSHEND.
Similar in style and layout to previous books under the Kubernik name, this book focuses on Hendrix from the early days of rock 'n' roll (Elvis performing in 1957 with Hendrix in the audience) to his final days and death (the chapter "See You In The Next Life"), with some interesting and sometimes informative text even for those who've read a lot about Hendrix. Also here are appendix sections (a "Room Full of Gear") plus an index, suggested reading, and a list of sources used.If you've read other books under Kubernik's name you'll recognize the layout--some multi-colored pages, plenty of quotes from various people, plus many photos (some not usually seen) and a lot of cool colorful graphics. There's 255 pages of text not counting the appendix section. The cover boards (there's no book jacket) are thick and the book is well made with sewn in binding, with an eye-catching cover graphic.Included are quotes from people from all through Hendrix's life--like Jerry Miller (Moby Grape), Janie Hendrix, Bobby Womack, Steve Cropper, Ernie Isley, Dave Mason, Brian Auger, Eric Burdon, Clive Davis (record label president), Eddie Kramer, Billy Cox, plus many others. The book covers things like Hendrix's arrival in England, touring and segregation, U.S. tours, Monterey Pop, Hendrix and Dylan, Hendrix in the studio, and important concerts (Woodstock, the Forum, and others) in America. Plus a chapter on Electric Lady Studios, sections on the Isle of Wight Festival in 1970, the Isle of Fehmarn concert which was Hendrix's final performance, and then concludes with his death. This is a wide-ranging look at Hendrix and his music. If you're a deep Hendrix fan you'll already know a lot of this information. But the format is laid out and makes this book very readable and--yes--fun to read. And with the addition of so many photographs and other ephemera, this is a cool book to add to your shelf of Hendrix books. And if for some reason you know little about Hendrix's life in music and want to learn more, you could do worse than pick up a copy of this book.

Colorful and shallow
I received this as a gift. This brightly colored book might look good on your coffee table, but that's about it. The florid prose is tedious. The bulk of the book is just snippets of interviews culled from other sources. There is no original research. There are no meaningful insights. Some of the photos are nice.
