Superking: Building Trumpeter’s 1:16th Scale King Tiger Paperback – December 11, 2020

Let me start by saying I will never build a 1/16 Plastic King Tiger Model. That said, I am interested in WW2 German Tanks and found it to be a superior reference manual, and I might one day try my hand at 1/35 scale and use this book. Many detailed color photographs of the model and also historical photographs. The author did a great job detailing the steps he took to build and complete the model. Not only a great reference, but a great looking coffee table book and enjoyable reading experience.

If you're building the 1/16 King Tiger from Trumpeter this book is a must have! In addition to the build it has hundreds of reference photos of KTs in WW2 along with restored examples.

Great photos, descriptions- great for anyone looking to build any scaleTiger II.

David Parker spent over three and a half years building and researching this Trumpeter 1/16 scale King Tiger. Along the way, he documented every step in the long build. He kept track of this process in several detailed installments in AFV Modeler a magazine he started in 2001. He finally combined all the articles and many pics that didn't get published in this book. The result is Super King: Building Trumpeter's 1/16 Scale King Tiger. A lavish, massively illustrated book that belongs on the shelf of any serious armor modeler. During his odyssey, Mr. Parker began his quest in order to make his kit as realistic and accurate as he could. This book isn't just about a modeling project, but a genuine piece of deep historical research and detective work, overwhelming craftsmanship and the results show through in every page. As I read the text and viewed the accompanying pictures, I could see that Super King is a mix of the modeler's precision, the detailed research of a military historian and the beauty of an artist. Mr. Parker is that rare combination of all three.A previous reviewer said that the book was lacking certain details on Mr. Parker's technique. But Parker explains what he did, perhaps not exactly HOW he did it. But then again, you may not like it that he didn't explain how he did something or what the exact technique was, but based on the final product, it's hard to argue with his amazing results. The other thing I love about this book is that Mr. Parker documents the mistakes he made during the build. If a numeral was rendered incorrectly and he had to correct it, he says so. It's refreshing to see a model builder at Mr. Parker's incredible skill level make mistakes like the rest of us. That makes me love this book even more. In addition to the build of the kit, Parker includes a large section of historical photos showing exterior shots of various King Tigers, some well known, others less so. There is also a large section of color photos showing the interiors of the handful of King Tigers known to exist.You don't have to be a modeler to appreciate or love this amazing book. There's a reason that this book is expensive and hard to find.

A great book on a very specific but important model kit. It’s filled with images and references, but a bit lite on technic.

I have been building models for over 50 years and have never seen a model with so must detail. The book is beautiful and I found my hand was cramping from trying to hold it up to read because is was so heavy ! Even if you never intend on building the Trumpeter King Tiger the book will simply make your jaw drop ! This is not a piece by piece illustrated assembly book. It covers what the author has done to the Trumpeter kit to produce the most stunning armor kit I have ever seen and I have been building for over 50 years. Just reading and looking at the beautiful photos will make you want to toss out your kits knowing yours will never come close to his. It is a must have for the seasoned builder who can appreciate such a prolonged build ! If you are a King Tiger model fan this is a book you will not be able to put down.

En fin bok med mycket bilder från bygget av Trumpeters King Tiger i skala 1:16 samt byggarens modifieringar av byggsatsen och en hel del referensmaterial man kan använda sig av om man bygger en annan King Tiger modell. Jag kommer att bygga en av Takoms King Tigers med full interiör och använda bilderna i boken som referenser vid målningen.
