Sweet bike Shredder
I'm an old geezer that played with Legos in the late 70s and early 80s. (think space and castle)I also am a huge Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle fan, recently after watching the Lego movie and picking up all my old Legos from my Mom and Dads, I got the bug to pick up some of these TMNT legos.I had a total blast putting the Shredder Dragon Bike together along with the six other lego sets I picked up. Instructions are very clear and easy to use, bags are labeled nicely and all Lego pieces were in the packages - with a couple extra of some of the smaller ones you might lose.So the big kid in my loved all new pieces I had never seen compared to my 80s Legos, That Giant tire in the back is sweet, the tires now even have sizes imprinted into them like real tires, really cool. The Lego website also has some alternative instructions on what you can build with this set, go to the TMNT products page, select Donnie's Lab and then go to the alternative build for 79101 and download the pdf for that. There are 9 total alternate builds in Donnie's Lab for different TMNT sets.Overall I am very impressed with the quality and selection of parts in the kit, I also love the attention to detail that Lego put into these new kits, plus it was nice to see that they didn't skimp on parts when they could have, even in areas were you can't physically see the Lego parts they used some to fill in areas nicely and smartly. So mine will just sit on a shelf looking cool, but I see this being a fun toy for kids of all ages. 6-99

Pretty Good!
This set contains three minifigs (Donatello, Shredder and a Foot Soldier), the Dragon-bike and a motorized skateboard.Coming the minifigs, I’ll start with the best one, Donatello. I think LEGO has done a very good job with the Turtles minifig; Donatello looks amazing! Nice printing on his torso (back and front) and on his legs. The Turtle shell is pretty nice. But one complaint I have about the shell is that you have to put it around the neck. And then, when you look at the turtle from the front, it’s very clear that there’s something around his neck, which I feel spoils the look. Instead, the shell should have been part of the torso’s back. Then it would have been better. The headpiece is the best part. It’s fantastic. Donatello carries his “staff” which is an actually lame assembled weapon. I don’t like the assembled weapons that LEGO makes. Since weapons are small pieces, why can’t LEGO make weapon from a single mould rather than assembling it?The Shredder is another great minifig. He’s one of the Iconic characters in the Turtles Theme…and so it’s more big reason for Turtle fans to buy this set! His shoulder armor is good. There’s good printing on his torso (only on front, not on back) and legs. His helmet/headgear is awesome! He has or rather “carries” claws (exactly like Wolverine). I wish LEGO would NOT repeat the same weapons for different theme. The designer should have designed claws that fit around the wrist rather than making the minifig carry the claws. The cape that Shredder wears is the standard LEGO cape. It’s very stiff, like paper. Wish LEGO would use softer material for capes. The last minifig is the Foot soldier. He looks ok. Same priniting as the foot soldier from other Turtle sets. He carries a sword. There’s an extra sword in this set, so good. This set contains a small motorized skateboard that Donatello rides. Though it’s simple and plain, it’s very cool! I simply loved it! It moves very nicely. It’s made up of basic parts, so if you have a LOT of LEGO sets, then you’ll probably have all the components to make more skateboards like this. You may not have the same colored parts as in this one, but still. It’s fun to play with.Coming to the main attraction, the Dragon bike. Needless to say it looks pretty good. A very nice design. The two big wheels (the back wheel is WAY bigger than the front one) add to the beauty. The bike is mostly black on color with bits of red. The designers could have done a little better job with the looks but still it’s pretty amazing. I think it’s one of the best bikes from LEGO that I’ve ever seen! One thing I didn’t like in this set (and about LEGO) is…stickers! Hate them. The smaller they are , the bigger the problem. It’s difficult to get them positioned right in the first attempt. And if you more attempts, the sticker gets smudged at the edges. Moreover, printed parts/bricks look WAY better than stickers. Hope someday LEGO will completely do away with stickers. In the box art, it is shown that Shredder is sitting on the Dragon bike with his cape going inwards. But in the instruction manual it is shown that you should put the cape outwards. Which is correct, otherwise it is virtually impossible to make Shredder sit. So , my point here is that LEGO has depicted a WRONG picture on the box. This is equivalent to deceiving the customers. May not be a big deal, but still. I have seen quite a few instances where LEGO has depicted wrong images on the box. I sincerely hope LEGO stops doing that. At least for the sake of honesty, if nothing else.In the end, I would say that I’m pretty happy with this set. The minifigures are pretty good, both the vehicles are nice. Any LEGO fan would like this…And for a Turtles fan, it’s a must!
