Q: Do the dimensions include the hood? Assuming it's 71" wide, and 51" is the height. Is that the blanket portion alone or does that include the hood?

Yes it includes the hood. My grandson is 5'7" and this is very long on him. He loves it. I purchased one for another Lady who is 5'5" and around 160 lbs. She loves it too. It is more than enough in height and width to cover you.

Q: Does it have pockets?

Yes and No. It has one pocket on each side for your hands, but they would not be good to carry things in.

Q: Since this is microfiber, does it attract stuff that has to be hand-picked off?

Know not the one I have . Enjoy it every much

Q: How difficult is this item to machine wash?

Not difficult at all. Although I do wash it alone and dry on warm not hot. Love this item better than the snuggy as it's lightweight to carry around and still very warm. won't be disappointed
