A Good Resource
At the time of this post I'm planning a trip to Maui so I haven't been able to actually verify the information yet, however, here's what I've liked and disliked so far:Likes:1. Many of the top picks for activities and so forth have been seconded by my friends who have traveled to Maui therefore I have confidence in the recommendations found in the book.2. The book is easy to read - it is written in a conversational tone. I read that some readers found this distracting but it did not bother me.3. The photos are great and break up the narrative in a pleasing way.4. The website for the book publishes updates to the information.Dislikes (note that my dislikes are mostly due to my purchase of the Kindle version):1. I'd like the table of contents to break up the restaurant section into more distinct geographical regions and list less in the contents. In the Kindle version the table of contents literally lists all the restaurants being reviewed. This makes for a very long table of contents to scroll through and I have found it to be overwhelming to read through this section in general. Don't get me wrong, there is some method to the madness as far as the organization of the restaurants (by cuisine and some region), I just don't see the need to list them all in the contents. If I'm really interested in one particular restaurant I've seen along the way then I can search through the book in the Kindle, and I imagine in the paper version there's an index? I would hope...2. There are links in the writing to other parts of the Kindle book for things such as photos, maps, or more detailed information on a given topic. I like the links, however, since the table of contents is daunting (due to the lack of brevity discussed above), I'd also like a link to get back to the section I was at! This is an isolated issue to the Kindle version.Overall I've found the guide to be very helpful. I look forward to trying out the "little-known" hikes and beach spots it discusses (we'll see how little-known they are)! If I had it to do over again I would get the book as a hardcopy. Due to the nature of the book I think it would be more user friendly as I often find myself flipping from section to section and I'd feel more comfortable tossing the book in my beach bag and not worrying about it rather than packing around my Kindle/phone. Anyhow, if I remember after my trip I'll try to update my review. Happy travels :)

Recommend Purchase before you book your vacation
Gave a 5 star cause it saved my family almost $500 on an excursion they we are so glad we cancelled. The book is a little wordy at times. I was not able to follow the book while we were on the road. It was great for packing and giving tips on the culture and places to visit and where to stay. Buy the book before you book your vacation. Will save you a lot of money and headaches. But when I got to Maui we ended up buying an app on our phone to help us navigate. Some keys items missing from the book were: babysitting or nanny service recommendations, does not really focus around small kids (now I understand cause Maui is not exactly a kid friendly vacation), the rain (should have recommended to pack rain gear) just said light rain jacket that was an understatement, it lead me to look for stores in Lahaina that were closed or did not mention the distance or location of the stores apart from each other. Only once did the book send me on a wild goose chase and I ended up loosing about 3 hrs on vacation. Otherwise I would recommend for purchase before vacation.

This is a MUST have for your Maui Trip
Ok, no joke- there are a lot of "trip books" out there on the market, but I really do think this one is the best for Maui. We had a week in Maui and used this book to plan the trip, keep us on track, and select vendors, restaurants, and activities for our trip to include our bike ride down Haleakala, our snorkel trip out to Maui, and our Road to Hana destinations and hikes to secluded waterfalls no one else knew about. Great lay out of snorkel spots, where to stay and why, and local only knowledge that is invaluable. Had the old edition and bought the new edition- not much changed- went page by page and almost identical. If you have the 5th edition or newer, I would not recommend updating, old one should still do well. Anything older than 5th edition, you may want to get the updated one and Amazon has the best price. They also have an app on iTunes, but I didn't want to drop the $7.99- thought the book was good enough for us. Based off of my experience with this book, I also purchased the Oahu version "Oahu Revealed".

Good Info
We just got back from 2 weeks in Hawaii. This book really helped us plan for our stay. We used this as a reference the whole time that we were on Maui. But, the Road to Hana is extremely overrated!!! That was a waste of a day! Everything was overgrown so you cannot see anything except for the 1.75 lane road ahead of you. Each stop/lookout had enough parking for 2-6 cars. We ended up just ignoring this book for that trip; you can just look for all the other idiots stopped on the side of the road to figure out where to go (if you can even find parking). But, the book did help find the 1 damn place to get food when you finally get to Hana (but you will get substandard service from this hole in the wall, but the BBQ is good). I would not recommend wasting the time on that trip! The opposite side of the island has a similar road, but nobody is on it and you can see the ocean the whole time. We drove that one 4 times while we were there! My wife found the book to be helpful, but I could take it or leave it. If you do enough online research before going, you can find just as much info. But, if you like to look stuff up on the fly, then this book is handy to have in the car.

if any part of the world would be available as "revealed", I would only buy those guides.
Absolute fabulous guide - informative and easy to use!It is very well structured by areas and if you explore an area you have all information in the right order.I like guides with photos and well structured, easy to read, not too wordy text and this is what you get.It highlights highly recommended areas - if you are short in time, you have a quick reference of things you should not miss. It gives "personal" opinions about places with reasons. This allows the reader to judge if it is important. Every page shows that the person who wrote the guide was there and has experienced it. It provides insights when to expect all other tourists to be there as well, gives guide how long things might take to get there, dos and donts .... I highly recommend it.

Great insight - fabulous photos
I'll know more when I actually get to Maui as to how accurate the book is, but it certainly seems to cover all the bases and provides some tips that you don't usually see in other guide books.

Used for a two day trip to Maui, overall ...
Used for a two day trip to Maui, overall it really enhanced our visit, note for the road to Hana, you really need to plan as per the book & set your odometer on the car, we found we missed some mile markers or telephone poles mentioned in the book, lots of cars on this narrow road with few spots to park, so no chance to go back, also some places mentioned only have room for two or three cars to park, so your forced to drive by them. We did find at approx 4pm on the drive back from Hana, the roads fairly empty of traffic, so if you still have the stamina, you would have a second chance to stop at your desired attraction.
