Great sound quality for the price.
I needed a 4 channel line level converter for the car system I put together because I decided to keep the stock head unit(factory radio) which has no RCA outputs. I had only tried a level converter once before many years ago and it was a big fail. The device affected the sound in a negative way which is a big no no. Fast forward to this Soundstream and I was a bit hesitant. But a buddy had tried a converter and I was impressed with the sound, so I took the plunge.Long story short, this unit delivers an excellent sound quality. It can handle 4 channels, has variable gain output and turns on automatically when it senses a signal! That saves having to run a 12 volt trigger wire. Then, it has a trigger output, and that's pretty nifty. So you can turn on an amp again without having to run a trigger wire. One other feature is RCA Auxilary INPUTS! I've never been quite happy with the sound quality of the head unit with compressed files. MP3's and such. I plan on getting a separate digital analog converter down the road, and plug my iphone directly into that. With the aux inputs such an install is a snap. The included volume knob will switch to the aux inputs by depressing it. Pretty handy.Other than that, it's plug and play. Set the gains and you probably never have to touch it again. I've got no complaints at all. My first soundstream product, and I'd not hesitate to buy another.Update October 13, 2015I had been having a funny occurrence. With the car off, when I opened the trunk, the Soundstream would turn on and trigger on my crossover. The amp, which is turned on directly from a 12 volt head unit trigger would only turn on when the head unit turns on. It was repeatable and they would turn back off after several seconds.I traced it down, or at least my theory is that when the trunk is opened there is a system "beep" noise. I suspect this was turning on the Soundstream. It wasn't a big deal to me, but when I did more work on the system(ran the gain cable/knob and installed fuses for each power cable off the distribution block) I decided to re-adust the gains on the amp, crossover and Soundstream. The net result was the Soundstream gains were set at about 9:30 so I could turn up the amp gain. After that, the false turn ons stopped. So I guess the signal sensing turn on feature of the Sounstream is gain level dependent. That's one thing that could be better, the manual. Also no switch to select between using the 12 volt trigger input vs the signal sensing turn on. But these are small matters, and the product is quite good.October 22,2015 update:I have to deduct a star as the false turn ons resumed and I don't feel like it should be that sensitive, or there should at least be a switch to select signal turn on vs 12 volt trigger turn on. I don't think it's the car beep with trunk opening anymore. After the gain knob was installed, I could see that the Soundstream turns on even when I open my doors. It still has great sound, and I don't think it's a deal breaker for me though some others would return it. If I had paid the full retail I would have returned it.
