You Can't tell a Book by its Cover
Yes, when a book cover has a dark shadowy picture of palm leaves and an old plane anchored in a lagoon you just know you're in for a real thriller. Not in this case. This may not be the worst book I've ever "almost" read (half way through I skipped to the last chapter to see if it had a decent ending - it didn't) but it's way up near the top.Poorly written drivel about the author's "buddies" but very little about the smuggling business. No excitement, no French Connection, nothing but blah, blah, and more blah. This dolt makes the most aggregeous error any author can make. He wrote a book that is just plain DULL.Please don't waste your money on this one. Let it rest in peace. It deserves a decent burial, but that's all.

An interesting, and true, read
I felt compelled to write a review after reading other reviews in which leaders said it was boring and a work of fiction. This is just not true. While the character names have been changed, if you're familiar with Canadian criminal history you can figure out who many of them are. For instance real life Hell's Angel Yves 'Apache' Trudeau is referred to as Jaques 'Apache' Francois, and West End Gang boss Frank 'Dunie' Ryan as Ryan 'Tooney' O'Toole. The book does a great job of describing the various schemes and scams they used to import marijuana, hash, and even a little bit of Coke from places like Jamaica and the Middle East, and the resulting legal and criminal troubles. If you enjoyed books like 'Blow' you should definitely give this one a try

Awful. I was under the impression this was nonfiction.

Great book
When I read the only review this book got, I tend to wonder if it wasn't written by the author of the other book with the same title. Personaly,I enjoyed this book. I found it well written and a page turner.Don't hesitate to buy this book. You won't regret it!

Ehh
I was more interested in how the scams were pulled off. It just seem that the first couple of chapters were too detailed about the people in the book. Overall it was good book to read when i was bored.

I really enjoyed this book. It is well written and the characters are "real" (you can relate to them well). There are some bits where I actually laughed out loud! Highly recommended

Different view from Mr Nice and Blowback !
This is probably a far more gritty and expected account in the world of drug dealing/smuggling. If you had read any other books like Blowback or Mr Nice then they are at odds with the whole Gangster drug dealing image portrayed on television so often. Of course one of the reasons is obviously the class of drug involved, risk and punishment and finally the mark up and money. Cocaine obviously has massive mark-ups and attracts the most ferocious of those wanting to make criminal money. However after reading smugglers blues you get the impression that this book is far more up to date and the dope trade has now started to attract the more violent criminal element as well. In fact it seems to be the case that either smaller and less well funded gangs are muscling in on the dope trade or using it as a `training ground' before moving into the class A drugs. It's interesting to note that more and more people seem to be growing their own to avoid the rip-offs and criminal elements. I can't help but feel that if the government legalised it entirely the criminal trade would lose all interest as there would be no money in it. Anyway the book itself is far more substantial than normal with the type face being small and there being a lot of pages it's a solid, enjoyable read. I recommend this as a good story and perhaps a prophetic warning. Enjoy. If you read the reviews then please vote and help keep the amazon recommendation system alive. Thanks.

Top Read
I have read a lot of these sort of books over the years, and this is really very good. The only other dope smuggling books that come close are Blowback, The Lone Brit on 13, The Ring, Mr Nice & Marching Powder
