Find the Opposite, learn the concept
Picture My Picture produce a range of flashcards to support teaching and learning. They are made in Hong Kong for the company based in Melbourne Australia, they are also available in the USA. The language used does not seem to have any Australian or USA bias though, the English spellings are the ones we would use in the UK for all the cards I have looked at. The flashcards are twice the size of a playing card, glossy, colourful and durable - photo on one side, word printed on the other, excellent quality. This set of 840 Opposites cards come in a sturdy storage box. There are 10 opposites pairs covered in this set - each one is illustrated in two ways . For example Empty/Full are shown by an empty and a full jar of biscuits, but also by a full and empty cereal bowl. This is a good teaching strategy as it is not always easy to get children to focus on the opposite attribute from just one example. The photos feature modern pictures using people and artefacts from a range of cultural and ethnic backgrounds, to which a diverse range of students can relate. There are additional cards in the pack giving ideas on how to use them in a variety of ways, differentiated for stages of learning .The best thing about these cards as a teaching aid is that they are very attractive to children and can be used in many different ways. They would be a great asset in any classroom for use in language teaching, speech therapy, small group interventions, to stimulate verbal communication, for any children who benefit from visual cues such as those on the ASD spectrum, for teaching English as a second language, to support project work or simply as discussion and conversation starters. Children can have fun matching up the opposite pairs. There is lots of further information on the Picture My Picture site including video clips of the cards in use. A range of boxed sets is available, this small box £10:50 is quite specialised but very well done.

High quality educational flash cards
Picture My Picture Opposites Flash Cards are high-quality educational flash cards. Each flashcard is 5.9" x 3.9" in size and depicts 'real life' images of a range of opposites. There are 2 pairs of each opposite - empty/full, front/back, dirty/clean, many/few, big/small, on/off, long/short, high/low, wet/dry, open/closed.The step-by-step guide gives teachers and parents the opportunity to move from one activity to another in order of complexity, thus catering for students at varying stages in their understanding and expression of opposites. They are really easy to read and engaging flashcards. My kids enjoy looking at real-world pictures on these nice and sturdy flashcards which keep them engaged and interested for some time.Recommended!

Helpful for kids with speech delay
Thoroughly impressed with these flash cards, much better quality than any of the ones I have bought before. My son is almost 5 but has a speech delay, so he speaks at around the age of a 24 month old. These cards have been really helpful at expanding his vocabulary and helping his understanding. He especially struggles with understanding the actual meaning of words and what they connect to in the physical world, so the clear photo style images are incredibly helpful for this, he can make a real world connection to the words I'm using. We will work on the opposite parts later, so I unfortunately can't comment on this part. However, I expect these will be fantastic for that too!Really love the packaging, the box is handy to store them in and easy to stack with other cards. Though make sure to stand them up because the lid falls off very easily!Contains instructions so if you're unsure where to begin this will be helpful. Just take it one step at a time and go at your child's pace.I would definitely recommend these cards to any parent/guardian who has a child who struggles with their speech. Great price and fantastic quality.

Great for UK English language learners
My daughter teaches English in Spain to children aged between 3-11, and has found this set of flashcards invaluable to teaching purposes. The cards are at least twice as big as a playing card, and are well made with sharp colour photos on one side and the text (and opposing action) in brackets. The photos are pertinent to any age, but especially the nursery/primary school ages. They come in a sturdy box to hold the cards between uses, and also come with ideas for use.My daughter would recommend these and the other cardss in the range.I hope you found my review helpful.

Great quality
I very much like the quality of this product. The cards are durable and suitable for handling on a regular basis. Also I liked how everyday things are present in the selection of examples. Things the are familiar to children. I also liked using visual cards as it encourages the children to think in pictures when thinking of the opposites. This is an ideal set to work with young children.Highly recommended.

The large cards show very clear and appropriate images that show the word or action very clearly. They create a fantastic education tool and really help children to understand about opposites through a fun visual card deck.I highly recommend this product.

Do opposites attract?
'Er indoors works in a special needs school (Key Stage 3) and thought these might be useful for moving their education forward. Like the 'Emotions' cards, you would need to do some work on antonyms beforehand. Even then, for the mental age of her charges, many would prove beyond them.
