The Children's Homer: The Adventures of Odysseus and the Tale of Troy Paperback – Illustrated, July 1, 2004

Well, this is a Junior version of "The Odyssey" and "The Illiad". Bought it for assigned 6th grade reading.Important to note: In keeping with traditional Greek dress, and artistry, the illustrations for the book feature nudity. No genitals are shown, but. . . EVERY thing else. This caused some consternation at school.

I didn’t know what to expect with this book. It’s a gift for a young reader so I read the book, too. It’s a tough read! A great adventure story but so detailed. I finished my copy. The young reader decided not to finish it. It’s a classic, though not for everyone.

I have high regard for the idea of re-writing Homer for small children; both in general and in regards to my family in particular. But honestly, this book is terrible. For some reason the author has rendered Homer into the most stilted, out-of-date syntax. My son can't bear to hear it -- and Homer is naturally so exciting, how this author manages to make it sound dull and removed, is amazing. Sorry.

My second grade son, who is very into all things "Star Wars the Clone Wars" and Legos (like most 8 year olds his age!) is really getting immersed in the tale of Telemachus and his search for information about what happened to his dad Odysseus. The narrative is beautifully written and engaging. It is not too literary for him but also does not over simplify the story. I also apprieciate the illustrations, they are a good intoduction to classical greek line work! I am reading it aloud and it has been a joy to share with him.

I was surprised by how hard of a read this book was. My son and I both found it very boring.

I like it, but even better, my 10 year old son requested this book after reading it at the library. He reads everything but doesn't always want to own a book.

My 4th graders are reading this school and they love it! I must say, it is super entertaining!

My child loved this version and tore through it during summer!
