Looking for a main lug 60amp box to power my shed. Using 20 amp outlets and feeding the panel with 8/3 wire. Would this panel be appropriate?

I used mine in a out shed for 6 led “fluorescent”lights and 10 electrical outlets with a 60 amp feed using 6/3 individual strand through conduit and it worked just fine. I even have room in the box to hook up a 220 if I ever get that welder I want.

Can I put a 50 amp 2 pole breaker in this box?

Yes, you can put 2- double breakers in this box

You will have to purchase the breaker separately and its amp rating will be in relationship to the amps you need for the circuit(s) you will be needing. This is for the enclosure only.

Will this work as a 40 amp breaker?

This is a sub panel and you can install a 40 amp breaker.
