MUST HAVE !
SPECTACULAR!From beginning to end! It’s really no surprise that a body of work so visually compelling would not give out such a gorgeous outlook. What is surprising compellingly though,is the beforematch these creations undergo before they are exhibit. Thanks the lord Robert Fairer and his lens were there to capture it all. You get that feeling of both intimacy and inmedeacy that one can not get from the distance of the actual show and definitely from no video. Interesting are also the glimpses you get on the preparations some garments require before they are shown and you also get to see the endearing relationship McQUEEN had with his creations. The love, care and devotion are all there . The photographs themselves are in fact spectacular but the editing and the cropping of the frames set them in the right concept for any observer to grasp. This is the first of what seems to be a highly specific anthology of books covering the extensive archive of one great but most of all lucky photographer who was granted actress BEFORE the all-access era, to a world very private. A def must have on any fashionable library or coffee table!

A book of enchanting, magical, fantastical stories told through unseen images
An exquisitely produced and bound book that reveals, cloaked in fashion, the true creative genius that was Alexander McQueen. A book that is not so much about dresses as it is about Art & Design. Accessible and informative essays by Sally Singer, Claire Wilcox and Robert Fairer introduce the deceptively simple idea that becomes so very clear through Fairer's captivating images: Stories. The unusual combination of a monograph on a designer by a single photographer creates the additional narrative of two lives travelling in parallel. Two young men becoming ever more accomplished and self assured in their professions. It shows in the clothes and it shows in the images. In his shows, McQueen revealed himself to be a storyteller as well as a craftsman; we call these artists don't we? Arranged chronologically, but consequently thematically, the book demonstrates the evolution from young radical designer to mature and conscientious outsider whose vision becomes ever harder to ignore over the years. Concurrently, Robert Fairer's journey in creating the Backstage image, giving us a peak behind the curtain, is an equally seductive story and his images, too, grow more powerful. With more than a hint of nostalgia for two decades marked by both progress and excess this books sits a little like McQueen with one foot in the past and another forever in the future. Though it will appeal to the fashionistas this book is for anyone with an interest in design and creativity.
