63 Beautiful Designs by Thomas Kinkade along with 63 photos of the actual paintings
The media could not be loaded. This is a beautiful coloring book filled with 63 different designs by the late Thomas Kinkade who is also known as the Painter of Light. My husband and I own a couple of framed prints by Mr. Kinkade and they are beautiful pieces of art that one can look at and lose themselves in.When I saw that Posh was coming out with a coloring book based on Mr. Kinkade's artwork, I pre-ordered it sight unseen. Sometimes that is a big risk but in this case, I am very pleased with the coloring book. The designs themselves are well done but do lack some of the smaller details. I plan to use a variety of markers and pencils and be able to add my own details with those. The book is so lovely to look at, my husband took one glance, tried to make off with MY book, and finally had to order his own because this is one that I do not intend to share. The designs are printed on the right hand side of with the photo of the actual painting on the left hand side (i.e., opposite each other in the book.) This will allow me to look at the photo of the real painting while I am coloring my own. It also, in effect, has the printing of the design on one side of the page. If you don't care about the photos, you can use markers which will bleed through the page (see my coloring medium information below.)My silent video will show all of the pages of the book, both the designs and the photos. I will also upload a few pages in photos to show how the book is put together. Here is what I found in this coloring book:63 Thomas Kinkade designs with 63 color photos as well.Designs printed on one side of the page with a photo on the back of the page.Paper is white, very slightly textured, non-perforated and medium weight.Designs stop before the binding areaGlue BoundYou can cut the pages out without loss of designs. I don't plan to do so as I really like having the photograph together with the design and you will lose that if you cut a page out.Book lays fairly flat if you break the spine to flatten it out.Alcohol-based markers bleed through freely.Water-based markers leave spots of color or shadows of color on the back of the page except for the brush end of Tombows which did not leak through.India ink pens leave shadows of color on the back of the page.Gel pens do not bleed through.Coloring pencils work well with one exception. All of the types of soft lead pencils I tested (you can see the full list in the comments section below), put down good color and layered well. Derwent Colorsoft was the only pencil that did not blend at all well for me. The color mostly stayed where I first put it down with only light blending at the edges. Hard lead pencils worked well and did not dent the page.If you decide to use markers, you will probably have some amount of bleed-through onto the back of the page. I recommend using a heavyweight sheet of paper or card stock below your working page. That will keep ink from damaging the next design below.

Inspiring and fun to color
This is a delightful adult coloring book. Be warned that is is very detailed with some really small details. It will take a considerable time to complete a picture. There are plenty of pictures to color (63) with c full color photo of the original paining and the facing page has the drawing for you to color. The book includes a variety of scenes and seasons, buildings and landscapes. The paper is heavy weight to allow you to use markers or light watercolor. I use watercolor pencils and then wet it very lightly so the pages won't warp or curl.Pros:Gorgeous scenes to colorVery challengingVery fun, soothing to do (like a jigsaw puzzle)Quality weight paperGreat varietyCons:Would prefer the picture to be on a single side page instead of the back of a previous pageWould prefer a lighter outline of the details instead of a black line that is hard to cover with light colors - like the sky for exampleIf you like Kinkade paintings, you will enjoy this coloring book. I enjoy it very much. It is a great collection at an extremely reasonable price.

Beautiful book of Kincaid paintings, but not an ideal coloring book
This is a 100% BEAUTIFUL book to browse through, with a generous helping of Kincaid's most luscious paintings where light is the source of his inspiration. But the book, as printed now, is not so good for the purpose of coloring. I would be reluctant to color any of the line drawings as they are within the book as on the other side of each page is printed the color version of the next painting. Despite the daunting copyright statement, because of the structuring of the book, I will likely scan and print the line drawings I want to color onto paper of my own. I judge it completely impossible to color the line drawings to resemble the originals without some color bleeding through the paper spoiling the color print on the back. Another caveat is the pages are not perforated for easy removal and the binding chosen for the book does not permit them to lie flat for coloring (if one wanted to color them within the book). As far as I could discern, the only answer is to disassemble the book so the pages lie flat and can easily be put through the scanner. Since there is a very intensely colored (true to the original, so therefore each a delight) picture printed on the back of each line drawing, scanning the line drawing involves some care and fudging to avoid scanner bleed-through onto the new print intended for coloring. Having said this, I would still buy the book again and recommend it to anyone I know who appreciates Thomas Kincaid's art. The book is lovely to page through and is well worth the price considering the many well-printed color reproductions of some of his most delightful works. It just doesn't qualify as a very conveniently designed book for coloring. Usually I would give a coloring book lacking perforations, with such thin pages, and printed on two sides of each page no more than two stars, but this book is, for its other qualities (beauty of the publication,, generous selection of images, quality of the color prints, accuracy of the line drawings) deserving to be considered excellent. However, since it is presented as a coloring book, I must also consider its usefulness for that purpose. So it gets four stars from me. If no page perforations, a bit heavier paper, and printing only on one side of the pages were remedied, it would certainly deserve five stars. Buy it anyway. For the price, you'll never get a better selection of Kincaid prints.
