A super easy way to pull pictures off an old IDE hard drive.
This enclosure worked well for what I needed. I have several old laptops that I was wanted to get rid of but needed to check the hard drives for pictures and incriminating evidence (jk). This provided an easy way to connect the old IDE-based drives to my computer and setup the drive to be repurposed. There were really no instructions with this, but come on -- it has a 40 pin connector that matches the hard drive and a USB connector on the other side. It truly should not require instructions. Now, I just used this for short times to move some files and overwrite everything else. I do not know how this would work in a daily, constant-use setting. It may not work as well for your usage, but was exactly what I needed!

Worked flawlessly
This worked flawlessly with a 10 year old laptop to retrieve files from a 24 year old hard drive. The case can be bit tricky to open, but that's good because it won't fall apart accidentally.

Simple to use and met my backup needs.
An excellent for for the hard drive I had removed from a broken system thus I use this to back up data on my new system.

Okay enclosure, tight fit, no double head USB cable
This is a simple IDE enclosure. I had an IDE drive that I salvaged from my old (really old) laptop that finally died out. I figured I might as well get the data from it and use it as a simple hard drive. Also my hard drive is an IDE solid state drive so I figured might as well. One thing that I did notice about this was the usb cable it came with. The usb cable was about your average length but it did not have that secondary USB port that comes out the other end for additional power. Most of these enclosures usually come with that secondary cable but this did not surprisingly. That being said, It did not hinder the connection of the drive. Like most mini usb enclosures, if you accidentally hit the neck of the cable it tends to disconnect which happened with this as well. In case of power issues, I wanted to test a disk drive to ensure it worked since it has moving parts. I tried a disk IDE drive and it stayed connected without issue. My IDE drives are no bigger than 60 gb so I cannot confirm if there are issues with larger capacity drives. The installation part is pretty simple. There is an indent that you press in and pop the top off. Do not force the top off too quickly because you could break the tabs. The board in side can be removed and I would recommend removing it so that you do not bend the pins on the IDE drive when putting this in. You still have to put it in at an angle to get the ports to line up with the opening. Again do not force it and be gentle because you can still bend the pins at this point as well. The case is a bit of a snug fit so heating was a slight issue. You can feel the drives heat from this when it is running for long period. It was not hard to close the lid but opening it up again was a bit annoying. The case is not at all shock proof so do not drop this. You could crack the enclosure and damage your drive. In terms of transfer speeds, you are limited on the fact it uses a mini USB instead of micro USB 3.0 or type c so do not expect it to be blazing fast transfers. Overall I am happy with this enclosure and it allows me to continue to use my IDE drive even thought it is old tech. It is tool less so I never have to worry about having a screw drive to have it open. It is a simple enclosure so I do not expect it to have a ton of protection for my drive. Only down side is that it can be a little tough to open with a drive already inside. The locking tabs feel a bit weak which worries me they will break over time. The USB cable is simple and does not have that extra power USB. I have not had issue with connecting my current drives , but I do not know if it will have issues with larger IDE drives. The transfer speed is okay for a mini USB but again I did not expect it to be blazing fast being older technology.

Use The Cable That Comes With It
Purchased this Zheino IDE HDD Case for an old IDE 2.5 inch HD. It was delivered on time and came with a USB mini cable and the case is constructed of a hard plastic. There is a small computer board that sits inside the case that you can lift out and connect it to the HD then place the whole thing back in the case making sure the light and the USB mini connector lines up with the appropriate holes in the case then snap the lid back on and you're good to go. I used an old USB cable I had laying around and my computer wouldn't recognize my drive. I connected it to other computers with the same results and connected the drive to another device I have just to make sure the drive was good and it was so I emailed Albert at Zheino and he got back to me within a few hours (good customer service) but I had already switched cables with the one that came with it and Voila it worked. The lid on the case is difficult to remove. It has raised areas on all four sides to catch a lip on the sides of the case which keeps the lid secure. Too secure, so I took a knife to the raised areas on both sides and sliced them smooth. The areas on the shorts sides keeps it secure enough and now its much easier to to remove. In summary this is a nice light weight case at a very affordable price that doesn't require any tools to install the HD in it and it's plug and play (as long as you use the right cable, my bad) and I would recommend this case. As a matter of fact I just found another old IDE HD so I'll be ordering another case.

Hard pass
Very lightweight, feels cheaply made, and the internal circuitry easily came out of the casing, as its not glued or screwed down. It didn't read any of my old IDE 2.5 laptop hard drives either, which might be due to the lack of an external power source (powered by USB bus only). I recommend spending extra for an external HDD reader that is powered by an AC Adaptor.

Overall works well
Simple minimal design. Downside of that is you need a strong USB port to power a non-SSD hard drive, due to no external power supply. I actually just used the small PCB as an adapter access a few older drives. No case needed.

I had an old laptop hard drive - as in, REALLY old - which came from a dead laptop. However it seemed to be the graphics that was the issue because it sounded like it was booting up but I couldn't get anything on screen, even with an external monitor. I wanted to see if I could recover any data off the hard drive. It was the old IDE/PATA interface and I thought the odds were pretty low of finding something that would work, but I stumbled across this. It arrived quickly, took only a couple of minutes to install the drive in the enclosure, I plugged it in via USB and it just worked! I was able to access the files and recover a whole stack of valuable photos and documents that would have been lost forever otherwise. It's only a simple enclosure but it was a reasonable price and worked just like it was meant to, so 5 stars from me.

This external drive enclosure is very simple to use. It snaps open with your thumb nail or probably a small screw driver. There are no screws nuts or bolts to bother with. The 44 pins of your drive are easily located into the small circuit board which has enough play that you can tilt it to identify the required position and orientation of the disk drive. The drive drops into the unit and is held in place because it is very nearly an exact fit. The cover can then be snapped back in place. I bought the unit to transfer data files to an old HP laptop now running Ubuntu from an old Fujitsu 120 gbyte disk formerly used as an XP main drive in the same machine. Once the disk was installed in the enclosure I was able to plug it in using the usb2 cable supplied. and immediately access all files. When I've finished removing data I may reformat the disk and use it for backups. There are no ventilation holes so I don't know if protracted use may cause heat build up but for my use it's ideal I shall probably buy some more.

Bin begeistert. Absolute Kaufempfehlung !
