Q: There seem to be mixed thoughts on the usefulness of this bag for burgundy wine bottles. Does it truly work for those bottles or not?

Burgundy/Beaujolais/Chardonnay/Pinot Noir bottles will fit in these bags but you will need to use a bit of strength to fit them in there, as they are more girthy than regular (say Cabernet) bottles.

Q: Will these fit over Champagne Bottles?

I was not able to fit a bottle of Dom Perignon, but maybe some of the smaller bottle champagnes will work. They work fine for all other wine bottles.
