MicroplaneProfessional Series Cheese Grater - Made in USA Blade 18/8 38004E

We had another grater and wanted to change it for a long time. So glad we finally did! This grater is excellent and the fact that it’s all metal makes it extremely durable and dishwasher safe. Love it!

Very nice looking and the usual standard expected from Microplane.

After I got over my initial disappointment upon opening the packaging to discover this wasn't, in fact, a miniature aircraft, but a single-sided, fine grater with a handle, I chose to try using it in my kitchen instead of immediately requesting a refund.I have to say that this thing is WOW in the kitchen! I zest citrus fruit now, and put it in everything! Lemon zest on my cornflakes, who knew what a citrusy zing that would give me in the morning! Well, given I'm writing this during quarantine, morning, afternoon, evening... whenever... Orange zest sprinkled over my marmalade on toast; A line of lime zest with my tequila... this thing is amazing!And it does more than just citrus fruit! I now have really finely grated garlic on basically everything! Beans on toast with garlic! Ham sandwich with garlic! I'm even infusing some vodka with grated garlic! Although I didn't have any vodka, so it's actually tequila. And also has lime and lemon and orange zest in.I'll find more things to test it on soon enough. But it's a fantastic product. Just no good for flying tiny pilots around.

This Microplane is so much better than the cheaper wannabe versions - you can feel the quality of manufacture and the blade is amazing. However - for zesting lemons/limes etc (which is mainly what I wanted this for) the 'Fine' version is, in my opinion, too fine - what you get is lemon zest paste / pulp, rather than actual grated lemon zest. It's just about OK for parmesan, but again, what you get is very fine parmesan "snow", much finer than what you get from a 'normal' fine cheese grater. I'd think this grater would be better for hard stuff like nutmeg. I wouldn't even bother trying it with ginger, or carrots. Lovely item though - it's just that I think I'll now be also buying a "Medium". I've attached a picture of the Microplane next to my regular fine grater, which I normally use for lemons and cheese, just for comparison. Hope this review is useful.

Before I bought this I had to laugh at the reviews at people who ended up grating their fingers. Grating is about knowing when to stop.....One of the first uses of this item was in grating vegetables for a soup. It dealt with them all with ease including turnip / swede owing to the blades being very sharp. I was very proud of my handiwork but very quickly realised the soup was going to have added extras - in the form of finger tips. Subsequent uses were made with extra vigilance and attention to maintaining the integrity of my digits.Brilliant piece of kitchen kit, but be careful and not cocky. (And you probably shouldn’t put one of those near it either.)

A must to team up with your Microplane Professional Grater. Fits perfectly, saves grating fingertips and aids being able to grate down to the last little piece. I also find that I am able to work more quickly using the slider and apply a little more pressure.Another reviewer made the following point which I am pleased I read so I am repeating it and that is that the Microplane Professional Slider will only fit the Professional grater and not the Microplane Gourmet or Home graters - so please choose carefully.

My last Microplane fell apart after about 20 years of use. Had I not regularly put it in the dishwasher I think it would have outlived me! I replaced it by one recommended by Amazon which was half the price of the branded Microplane and thought I was getting a bargain. Sadly not the case as nothing compares to the genuine article. These Microplanes are brilliantly sharp and do a perfect job. Don’t waste money buying cheaper items or like me you’ll regret it.
